I had thought about Mockingbird but she is essentially a Black Widow clone. Powerless human who just happens to have a very skilled physical set. If they go that route may as well make the character(Agent 13) tied to someone most integral to the film, like Cap, than Hawkeye.

Carol Danvers. It's such a perfect set-up.

THR's Heat Vision is reporting that Morena Baccarin, Jessica Lucas, Cobie Smulders, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead are amongst the actresses set to audition for the role of Fury's sidekick. They also report that the tests include a nine-film option such as Jackson's.

I have an easy way to solve this.

Colbie as Carol Danvers.
Mary Elizabeth as Maria Hill.
Jessica Lucas as Janet Van Dyne.
And Morena as Jessica Drew.

SuperHeroHype has an unconfirmed report it's for the role Janet van Dyne aka Wasp.
They add that speculation is that its for the role of Janet van Dyne/The Wasp, though that is not confirmed.

Not that the movies have or strictly will follow the comics but Janet was never an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Yeah, but the Avengers were never a SHIELD Initiative program (The Ultimates are, though), Howard Stark was never a SHIELD founder, Stane wasn't Tony's lifelong Uncle-figure, etc...

Don't forget that the comic book version of Tony Stark was originally captured by the Viet Cong!

Continuity is a fluid thing . . . .

Well, THAT particular aspect being changed made sense...

But yeah, some minor changes to improve continuity and the interconnections of the various marvel titles (though, at the time Marvel had the most successfully integrated universe of all) for the movies are acceptable. It helps that none of these changes are harmful or offensive.

The Janet rumor has been around forever and won't go away. I would love to see Maria Hill, especially if she was played by Monica. I'm pretty excited with how this film is starting to shape up.

Deadline Hollywood has learned that the sidekick role is Maria Hill and that Cobie Smulders is expected to get the part (the deal could be finalized this weekend).

Maria Hill makes more sense than Janet or even Carol - her Ultimate role not withstanding.

i had hoped for Sharon Carter...

Maria Hill as Fury's sidekick makes sense, as that's essentially the role she plays in Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

Which I've always thought of as primer for the younger generation. The Generation that got the 90s Avengers cartoon version may not even remember it due to it's brevity.
