The scope and quality of the FX will probably take a hit. They'll likely have to lose some action set pieces altogether, or drastically scale them down.

Blaze will now have a BMX bike and his flaming skull look will be achieved by holding a match behind his head. And Nic Cage will have a dead gerbil on his head. Though that will probably look more convincing than the rug he had in the first movie.

And this time he'll play Blaze similar to how he played his H. I. McDounaugh character from Raising Arizona

They can save money by reusing some of the set pieces of previous Nicolas Cage movies.

A prisoner transport plane crashes on Alcatraz, where there happens to be a church with pigeons flying around. And underneath Alcatraz is where the Free Masons hid many of history's treasures.

I'm thinking they have to maintain or improve the flaming skull/bike FX where they can. Reducing any prolonged action scenes seems like a compromise that is plausible. The upside is sometimes those can drag on for a bit long anyway. Almost as if to do them just cause they can, not that it serves any purpose other than to be flashy.

I tighter character piece(hoping that is possible) with shorter action scenes isn't a bad trade off imo.

The report here on Darkhorizons confuses me a bit. I'm not sure if it means that the budgetof the movie will remain at $75m, period. Or if Sony is only reducing the amount by which it is financing the movie, with another studio making up the shortfall, in return for which they get the international rights. Hopefully the latter.

^^^^
That does sound possible. If the back portion is traded off in financing for international rights it means SONY's investment is reduced. Therefore meaning it is likely to recoup quicker, especially if the film does modestly well again.

Re: Ghost Rider 2: Spirit of Vengeance Discussion, Pics etc Till Relea

Filming began yesterday.
Filming starts on the Transfagarasan highway

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance writer/directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor announced via Twitter that filming started on Monday for the February 17, 2012 release:

principal photography on ghost rider SOV begins today!!!

idris elba, helicopters, motorcycles, russian arm and the the Transfagarasanul.... HOLY SH*T

Seems Idris Elba gets the first bit of action out of the gate with principal photography. Should only be a matter of weeks I suppose until the first leaked spy photos are released.

The rest of that little piece mentioned a stunt rider standing in for Nic Cage. Maybe if nothing else we can get an idea of any wardrobe changes they might have tweaked when/if we should see some pics.

Short interview with the director, including some stuff about how the depiction of GR himself - ie how the character will be brought to life on your screen - differs from the previous movie.

And here's an onset vid, featuring Cage and his new bike, not to mention his new wig, which is somewhat less bouffant than the previous one. Perhaps that's where the budget cuts came in?!

I'd imagine that since some time has passed from the first film that Johnny has gone through a few bikes. I do like the look of this bike and will be curious to see how/if, like the chopper, they mold the GR bike off of this one.
It looks cool and badass to me.

A few more shots on set but what makes this image worth noting is that this is the first pic to include a young Danny Ketch! Looks like he may be 12/13ys old. Clearly setting up a situation to continue at some point with Danny should the movie find success again or when Cage wants out.
we get to see our first look at the young actor playing Danny Ketch, son of Ciaran Hinds' The Devil, in the movie.

I wonder how long the post production will take on this movie. The 1st Ghost Rider was in post for over a year, I think, because it took a lot of time to do the flaming skull effects with so little money.

oh, that's right. She just magically changed races in the middle, from Euro-Cuban to Afro-Cuban. I guess to the people in Hollywood one latin is just the same as another.
