Would a general audience know who Liz Allan was though? I don't mean to be snide but I think one of the reasons why Rami and the writers used Mary Jane over Gwen Stacy was that MJ was relevant to the comics currently and maybe more known by the general audience. Hell even my parents knew that MJ and Peter were married but that's because they have sons that have been following Spider-Man comics since they were three years old. Liz is not even a main character, she's a supporting character that is usually hooked up with Flash and then later marries Harry.

I don't think they care about fidelity to the comics but that would be brave if they did that.

I will agree with the above comment. I just don't see Liz Allan as being a starring character in a movie when they already have MJ or Gwen to use.

As a casual SM fan (heh, that could be taken different ways) I'll say that while I think most people know who MJ is, and I had heard of Gwen before but couldn't really remember her place in the mythos, I have no idea who Liz is.

These are not screentests, which usually involve some sort of dealmaking, but rather readings and meetings. Basically, it’s still early. And if none of these girls work out, don’t rule out another round of searching.
