Why do they keep letting this guy direct? When was the last time Shyamalan actually had a hit? Everything he has done since the 6th Sense has been a disappointment.

I agree. Although I liked The Village and Signs wasn't too bad but ever since then he has taken a nose dive. I was really rooting for him to get back on track with this movie.

Very few people, fans or otherwise, have enjoyed this movie.

All you have to do is quote the original casting sheets, which say something like "looking for white or any other ethnicity" for each of the characters.
Actually that wasn't the original casting sheet. It was a flyer put out by a subsidiary agency that did casting in one specific location. The original casting documents said "All ethnicities."
Hah, okay. Well, that's somewhat better.

Spoilers below.

It was a horrible film. Completely trash. The only good part of the film was Zuko's scenes. He was the only character that felt like the show and his parts were good. Everything else on the other hand...... I mean the film jumped around so much it felt like a YouTube mashup.
Jumps from the iceberg to Haru's village and the prison which was by the way, in a canyon instead of on a rig. Jumps to another village they 'free'. Jumps to 'Fire Nation Colony 15' with Iroh telling Zuko to relax and go get laid. Then his ship explodes from a fucking gas leak. No pirates, no powder kegs, a fucking gas leak.
Ozai was not intimidating at all, neither was Zhao. No agni kai between Zuko and Zhao, no Ocean Spirit Godzilla, no Fire Nation ships were destroyed at all. Aang just scared them off with a wave.
The Spirit World was also weird. Aang was talking to Roku's dragon, not Roku himself. No Hei Bai, no Koh the Face Stealer, no cranky monkey.

I could barely sit through it. I wanted to get up and leave, but I had to finish it.
Hopefully when/if a second film is made, Bumi, Toph, Azula, Mai, and Ty Lee will be like their show counterparts like Zuko is. Hopefully the more Zuko centric second book will make the film better than the first.

My God...
You think this is about what they...DIDN'T put in the movie? LOL....

If they had stuffed any more into the movie there would be no dialogue. This movie is a cartoon of the Cartoon series which took it's story very seriously. It was horrendously horrid. The worst Film every created.

I knew nothing of the source material, and except for a few weak bits (as listed above), it wasn't bad.

Yeah, I kind of figured they wouldn't be able to cram 13 episodes worth of material, character development and stuff into one one movie. Which is why I didn't go see it.

Twenty episodes, actually, although it sounds like there were a bunch that they skipped over completely.

Outside of this thread me and $70m worth of sales over the holiday weekend, making it #2, said screw the critics opinions and those crying ethnicity foul enjoyed the movie.

You really have to go with your own gut and how much you trust it yourself. Its a B/B- movie that set the stage for the saga, therefore as an entry film it is choppy or slow for the first half. Its an entertaining movie and better than 70% of what else has been out there this summer.

The film took about 200 million and was suppose to be their Harry Potter. It certainly did fall short of financial expectations, which is all that matters in the long run.

It has a C-grade from CinemaScore surveys, and a 4.5 on the IMDB, so actual response having seen it isn't very good.

Re: The Last Airbender - Grading & Discussion

A strong-ish opening isn't surprising, since it was heavily promoted and the ads made it look good. What will be telling is how it does afterward -- whether it gets good word-of-mouth and repeat viewings. And so far the word-of-mouth is terrible. Have you noticed -- usually by this point in a movie's run, the TV ads include positive or seemingly positive quotes from critics. For TLA, I haven't seen a single ad quoting the critics.

What are trying to say there: 'took about $200m'
Its posted budget is $150m, so nearly half way to production budget on opening weeknd isn't bad for any movie. It hasn't even opened overseas yet. Fall short, not really.

Have you seen it though?
I so seldom if ever care what others opinions are. I have a higher hit/miss ration based on my likes/dislikes than any site can ever afford.
If you don't trust yourself and need others(not just you of course) to TELL you what is good then well...

Tell that to Knight&Day, now they were shocked at their pitiful opening.
What it tells me is people decided K&D was a boring retread despite the heavy push and despite the poor critical response more people said, 'Hey TLA looks fairly good'.

No, I haven't. I object to the casting, and M. Night Shyamalan hasn't made a good movie in years - and what's been said about the movie isn't making me regret my decision.

Then you really have no voice on the movie itself.
It's like complaining about the Mayor, Governor or President and didn't vote just cause you object to the choices.
This is the movie, see it and then complain. I'll respect that at least. I didn't think Michael Clarke Duncan was a good Kingpin but he didn't ruin the movie. You might, I stress might cause your so well dug into the casting and opinion on M.Night, find that as a whole its not bad. Not perfect, I say that, but not as bad as you'd like due to your bias, provided you can get over that.
