Can Miss Chicken do it?

I am seriously running out of shelf space for my books so it is time for a good weed. I have set myself a task of removing 100 books from my collection.

So a poll to see if you think I can do it or not.

I might ask people's opinion of whether I should get rid of certain books or not.

Get rid of books, what is this strange and bizzare concept?

Re: Can Miss Chicken do it?

Should I get rid of the following

2009 version of the Guinness Book of Records
The Devil's Teardrop by Jeffery Deaver
The Reluctant Queen by Jean Plaidy
The D.A. Takes a Chance by Erle Stanley Gardner

The last three were from my mother's collection and I have never read them.

Re: Can Miss Chicken do it?

I already get many books as ebooks or audiobooks. I have about 900 dead tree books and about 400 ebooks/audiobooks.

Unless it is a special favourite I will get read of any book that I already have as an ebook/audiobook or if I can get them as an ebook for free or pay no more $1 for.

So goodbye to

I doubt that more than 800 of your 900 dead tree books are indispensible. I think the secret to doing it is just to do it. One out of every nine, right between the eyes.

When you say get rid, do you mean donate them?

Re: Can Miss Chicken do it?

^^^ Yes, the books will be going to the Resource Re-Use Centre.

Five Minette Walter's books from my mother's books

The Scold's Bridle
the Ice House
The Shape of Snakes
Disordered Minds
The Devil's Feather.

I have had them on my shelves since 2011 and haven't got around to reading any of them. I have watched the miniseries based on the first two.

I liked the Ice House and The Scold's Bridle. Dump the others is my advice. You can always find the classics at the library. I've been trying to weed out some of my books, too. It's hard. I am keeping the ones that are out of print but I have to be honest about ever wanting to re-read a lot of the others. My son (33 yrs old) doesn't get rid of many of his. We read some of the same series so I can take my copies to the Recycled Reader, knowing that he still has copies. I mostly buy e-books now unless my son would read it too. (Over 300 on my Kindle) I'm retired but may need a part time job to support my book habit.

You can do it if you set your mind to do it. I'm sure whoever gets the books will be happy to have them.

Re: Can Miss Chicken do it?

I am a little disappointed. About three days ago I announced on the Tasmanian Pay It Forward Facebook page that I had the entire collection of Cat Who books to give away. That is 29 novels, plus the Companion book, plus three other Cat Who short story books and one Sneaky Pie book. These are the books that I bought my mother to read in her last two years of life. I have read about a dozen of the novels, but I doubt I will ever get around to reading them all. I thought someone would like the collection in its entirety but it looks like it will just end up in the Re-Use shop.

This Cat Who books are separate from other 100 books I want to weed.
