Uh-oh.

For those who forget the bad decisions Fox has made with the X-Men franchise, X-Men: First Class is a prequel to the X-Men films so far. Rumor has it that Wolverine shows up, despite that breaking continuity even worse than the painfully continuity-straining X-Men Origins: Wolverine did.

I wouldn't worry too much...just look at it as a fresh new X-Men film non-related to any of the other films.

Should be ok...but 2011??? That is like a year...can they do it???

Re: Fox Offers Matthew Vaughan "X-Men The First Class"!

Well, this is supposed to be a prequel to Singer's films, so I have no idea how they are going to do that and still make it work. Besides, even in the original First Class comic-book, Wolverine was nowhere to be found, so not only does it break film continuity, it breaks comic-book continuity as well.

Supposedly the script is locked, since Singer had developed it with writer Jamie Moss for some time, so Vaughn can head right into pre-production. I would be skeptical, but Vaughn has worked with 20th Century Fox on an X-Men movie before so he knows the ruthless studio politics that goes on there, since he pulled out before, so I would imagine if he had signed on, realizing the release date and the time schedule, he would be okay with it.

I have total faith in Vaughn as a director after Layer Cake and Kick-Ass, so I'm sold.

They've made four Wolverine movies already. This would be the fifth!

I am guessing the studio is behind this more so than Singer.

I had a feeling they'd work in the young mutants Wolverine helped free.

God forbid we have a movie that DOESN'T involve Wolverine in some way.

Xavier- This is a table from Canada with three distinct claw marks.

And this time, use other major villains than Magneto. Like Mr Sinister or the Hellfire Club.

Re: Fox Offers Matthew Vaughan "X-Men The First Class"!

^ Why would they use other villains than Magneto since the core story of "X-Men The First Stand" is the falling out of their friendship? I assume the film will climax with the X-Men first encountering and stopping Magneto...as for the Wolverine rumor it's just a rumor and it's possible he could appear in an unrelated to the plot cameo. I'm excited about this. Can't wait to start hearing casting news. It'll be up against "Green Lantern". Fox must be really confident about this project...

As far as I'm concerned, unfortunately, Fox has already fucked the X-Men franchise with the last two films, so I don't care who directs it, I have very, very low expectations.

I'll always have my dear, sweet X-Men duology.

Maybe their falling out could be the result of differing opinions on how mutant should deal with threats, or Magneto encountering an anti-human mutant who begins to make him disillusioned with Xavier's vision. Mr Sinister might work out well for that role, seeing how in the comics he'd been manipulating people for decades as well as the mutant race.

There's still X-Men 4 for that Anwar and I agree that Mr. Sinister would make a grand villain for an X-Men movie.
