Do you think Dollhouse Season 2 would have benefited from 22 episodes?

Instead of 13 episodes, do you think Dollhouse Season 2 would have been twice as great if it had 22 episodes? Maybe it would have been the show more room to tie up some more loose ends before the series' ending.

I wonder what Dollhouse on FX would have been like with 13 episodes. OR your HBO's or your Showtimes. Hell, any Joss Whedon show on a cable network could be a good thing. Story Arcs-o-plenty!

Not really. It was pretty all over the place until they were told they were getting canned, and then they put that last bit together. Given a longer run, it likely just ends up with Whedon doing more fantasy episodes about Eliza...

No. Whedon would have just dragged out the story-lines. I prefer the shorter season.

This. I think shows benefit from shorter seasons because of less throwaway episodes.

^I don't always agree with this. (Call me crazy, but I think that clip shows are becoming a lost art.)

However, I agree that both seasons of Dollhouse were filled with filler episodes. From the moment I first heard the premise, I was skeptical that it would work as a series. It sounded much more like a movie or a mini-series to me, kinda like The Prisoner. As the show went on, I discovered that my instincts were correct. Some elements of the arc were really interesting. And I'm not against stand-alone mission-of-the-week episodes but the writing & characterization on the series just wasn't strong enough to sustain those episodes.

Ultimately, I keep coming back to the fact that the dialogue on Dollhouse simply doesn't live up to Joss' previous series-- Buffy, Angel, Firefly, & Dr. Horrible. Heck, it even pales in comparison to Jason Katims' Roswell.

Definitely! Even if it was nine additional early season "filler" episodes that just expand on the characters a little I would've enjoyed it.

Well, that's what I'm saying. If the season had 22 episodes, not only it would wrap some loose ends that the viewers felt weren't resolved, it would expand on the characters and their development. Maybe, if pushed enough, they would have made filler episodes in the caliber of Supernatural.

Re: Do you think Dollhouse Season 2 would have benefited from 22 episo

As much as I would have loved further episodes, I'd have rather it had gotten a third season then an extra nine episodes in season two. It was hard enough as it is to keep things on track for thirteen episodes (what with changes and allowances for changes...), plus the storyline in season two feels better for 13 episodes, 22 seems like they'd have to have done some non sense episode, or take what made one great episode and stretch it over to two or three "meh" episodes.

Just an FYI, they might have had a feeling ebfore hand (Maybe Joss had actual knowledge) but the cancellation didn't come down until production of the 11th episode was in progress, Likely, they did change some things for 12 and 13, but overall they likely planned to do this. The only thing 22 could have done (if not maybe have a new season) is perhaps allowed time for Amy Acker to appear in additional episodes (as well as Alan Tudyk) as their respective filming schedules had finally opened up (I was most disappointed to find out this was done as it was, only to find out Alan was in like, three episodes of V and Happy Town was pushed back until the end of April, bah). We could, I suppose have seen some background episodes and them not really be "filler" but eh... Whats done is done, I guess.
