And check out the video of Guy Pearce as his character from the film: http://blog.ted.com/TED2023
Nice, although that one seems more fitting to a Blade Runner prequel than an Alien one.
Whose to say it can't be for both?
[anal fanboy]The fact that Blade Runner is set in 2019 while this vide is set in 2023[/anal fanboy]

That TED presentation was epic. Presumably, this would be the son of Charles Bishop Weyland, though I doubt they'd mention any direct connections with the other series (AVP or Predator for that matter). I can still imagine it to be. There always seems to be a Bishop, Weyland or some combination of the two in the movies/games/books, which might imply a genetically engineered dynasty of sorts, alternating with android replicants.

Anyway, can't wait for this to come out. I want to learn about the Space Jockeys, maybe what they were doing with the alien eggs and why it took 30 years for WY to send another team to LV-426.
I think they're pretty much considering Charles Weyland from AVP to never have existed and having Peter Weyland as the company founder.

I don't understand this. That nomenclature comes directly from the second film. I guess you could argue the character who said it doesn't get Alien movies, in the sense that he didn't know he was in an Alien movie?
The 'nomenclature' as you call it was an in-film joke, as the marines immediately demonstrated.
New one on me - so what do we call them, oh oracle of correct naming? I wouldn't wish to appear like a n00b in such discussions.
Well the clue is in the title. There's a big hint for you.

What about the Charles Bishop Weyland from the AVP games?

Prometheus? Alien? Alien is a little too generic, isn't it? We seem to have several different species of alien in the extended universe.

Biologically engineered weapons are different than aliens even if they are created by so called gods like Prometheus. Their purpose being ultimately unkown though other than what they are to Humanity - killing machines.

Nothing to concretely tie them together, nothing to prevent it either.
There are a few elements from the Alien franchise in the Blade Runner movie, but those are more like inside jokes, added by the art department (similar to how there's a Millennium Falcon in Starship Troopers).
They are inside jokes right up until someone figures they can make money out of the combination.

A new trailer will be released for this on March 17th. And to spend the time till then, they also released a new picture (although I think we saw that already during the teaser):

It seems to be a map of several star systems.

Re: Prometheus: Ridley Scott returns to Sci-Fi

As much as I find the idea of a trailer for a trailer ridiculous, I couldn't help watching it.
I hope they change the music to something more ominous like in the teaser, but otherwise it looks great.

It's all calculated marketing to keep Prometheus in the blogs, forums, news From December until June.
I think the marketing departments know if they release a teaser they can build buzz and keep articles and blogs and their product they are hawking in the news, blogosphere, fan forums, and other forums such as their product's Facebook page buzzing with discussion and chatter. The old saying about there is no such thing as bad press.
Well if the first teaser trailer was leaked in December (6 months before the release)

yeah pretty epic. I'm so stoked to see this film.
Is that an Alien at 14 seconds? Or some pissed off crewmember?

Looks like the Prometheus rams the derelict and causing it to crash (making it a 'derelict') .
