The Invaders in the second half of the film? Wouldn't that be the part set in the modern era? Or am I wrong in thinking there will be a time shift?

I would think that the film will not take place at ALL in the "Modern Era". I assume the movie will end with whatever mechanism the film writers choose that will send Steve Rogers into the present, which would segue into the beginning of The Avengers in which Steve Rogers is found in the present and has to adapt to the modern world.

In the comics, Cap spends many years frozen in a chunk of ice, surviving until he is found and revived by the Avengers.

Is the "chunk of ice" idea still good enough for modern audiences, or does this beg for a rewrite?

The Ultimates kept the frozen thing, and it's fairly iconic, so I doubt they'll change it (he's got advanced biology, and the idea of the frozen man occurs a lot in pop culture).

They're not doing the timeskip. From what Johnston has said, there's going to be a prologue and an epilogue in the present day, but the actual story is all-World War II.

Song and Dance cap?

Woah.

From the Director...

The costume is a flag, but the way we're getting around that is we have Steve Rogers forced into the USO circuit. After he's made into this super-soldier, they decide they can't send him into combat and risk him getting killed. He's the only one and they can't make more. So they say, 'You're going to be in this USO show' and they give him a flag suit. He can't wait to get out of it... So he's up on stage doing songs and dances with chorus girls and he can't wait to get out and really fight. When he does go AWOL, he covers up the suit but then, after a few things happen, he realizes that this uniform allows him to lead. By then, he's become a star in the public mind and a symbol. The guys get behind him because he embodies something special.
Emphasis mine.

Reaction: ...NOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I don't see the issue. It's a credible-enough twist on the character's origin, and obviously going to be played as silly/a waste of his time.

Explains why a soldier would wear a brightly colored outfit.

Maybe Steve Rogers will get to meet Bob Hope.

With chain mail and little wings on the hood. Yeah, that makes a little more sense in this context.

But Channing Tatum would be ideal for a Captain America hip hop dance scene!

No it's not.
Yes it is. Sorry to burst your bubble.

That's a term which has no legal, historical or geographical basis.
That part is laughably indefensible.

And we in Ireland simply don't like it.
That's the spirit!
I'm sorry but you are just plain wrong. Living in Ireland, I think I know a little more about it than someone living in Arizona (in fact, I live in Northern Ireland and have both Irish and UK citizenship).

You will not find that term used in Irish publications. You will not find it used in the Dail (Irish parliament). You will not find it in any Irish or British legislation, nor will you find it in any of the binding international treaties between the UK and Ireland. It means nothing, it is at best passe term which has fallen from favour and has been replaced by 'these islands' or 'Britain and Ireland' (or 'Ireland and Britain').

I'm not debating the point any more as there is clearly no point in arguing with the only person on the planet who thinks that the word 'Brit' applies to Irish people!

I never said that Irish people could be called "Brit". Not once. If you think I did, you are mistaken, or confusing me with another poster. Of course, many in Northern Ireland (Unionists) would says that people from NI could be called "Brit".

I said "Ireland is one of the British Isles". This is widely accepted as fact in the majority of the world outside of the Republic of Ireland, and by a majority of people in Northern Ireland.

You're clearly letting Irish politics and Irish nationalism influence your argument.
