Here's a tricky question - is it possible that Potter keeps Captain America off number 1 next week?
Very possible and something that's been on my mind since they announced the Potter slot way back when.
I made what seems to be my first concern of opening post Potter back on page 56, post 839 ironically enough a year to the date that film opens, July 22, 2010.

What concerns me about Caps chances for success are not how accurate his costume is to the source. I'm thinking about audiences getting superhero overdose by the time Cap roles around + Cap opens the weekend following Harry Potter: Deathly Hollows pt.2(aka the last HP film) + Pirates 4, TFormers 3, F&Furious 5 & Cars 2 among others. Next summer is going to be brutal and Cap will be opening in the thick of it. Thor is lucky to have the opening slot in May where the IM, X-Men & Spidey films have all done well. Cap could pull Hulk numbers, that's what I'm looking at as of now. XM:FC is the first Xfilm to open as deep into summer as it is.
Potter is going to have to have a huge 65-70% drop AND Captain America needs to open strong, as strong as THOR, around $65m+ to be #1 I think. If it's as good as it seems it'd be a shame for it not at least have one weekend in limelight.

We had it in comics - it was called Truth:Red, White and Black and wasn't well received (I've never read it, so I have no idea).
I thought it was incredible. Certainly not what I expected. Not really a super-hero story at all.

In the Neil Gaiman-written Marvel 1602 he was Native American, IIRC.

No, he was the regular Steve Rogers sent back in time to live with Native Americans.

Sadly, I don't think Cap will get number one. Places around here are essentially sold out for Harry Potter for the first week. People who want to see it have to see it next weekend. A drop doesn't seem all that likely.

I was able to catch an early free showing of the movie last night. While I wouldn't say it was bad, I was certainly disappointed. The pacing was a bit to fast. To top it off, certain elements were rushed through and not really explained well. There were some interesting ties to the Thor movie. Overall, it just had too much of a setup movie feel to it.

Turns out that after all the talk of them going with a body double and CGI'ing Evans head onto another actor they filmed Chris Evans and digitally "shrunk" his body.

Like Fincher in "Social Network," director Johnston initially hired a body double and used the head replacement system in a scene where Steve Rogers was lying on a table. But he quickly realized it wouldn't work for other sequences.
...
Instead of the body double/superimposed head, the filmmakers used a "shrinking" technique and computers to basically erase portions of Evans' strong physique on screen.
"We filmed over 250 shots of Chris and used digital technology to 'shrink' him down to what we called 'Skinny Steve,'" said Johnston.
"It's pretty amazing," added Evans. "They took shape out of my jaw line, they shrunk my skeleton and they made my shoulders less broad."
Reviews should be hitting tomorrow or hopefully within hours if it's an online outlet

That's a pretty shitty review, though. It's always a warning sign when the writer's more interested in their own cleverness than reviewing the subject.

It's too smug, and the author clearly hasn't really thought out her ideal Captain America film, where Steve confronts the real-life atrocities of the Holocaust.
