When I was young I never cared for it, I still don't like how they offed Hicks and Newt. If I saw it again today I might appreciate it a little more.

Re: What do we think of Alien 3?

It's certainly the darkest of the films. The opening sequence is brilliant and sets the tone for everything that follows. Sigourney Weaver is phenomenal as Ripley as she's called upon to deliver more than in the other three films put together.

Alien 3 is inferior to its two predecessors, but - in its Special Edition form - not by much, and is a fitting endgame for the character. Given the difficulties associated with the production of the film, that we got something this good is remarkable. Fincher can leave it off his resume if he likes, it's still more interesting than anything he's done since Fight Club.

Voted 'Good'.

Re: What do we think of Alien 3?

I think it had the possibility of being a masterpiece but ended up, according to the poll options available, good. Seriously, from masterpiece to just good? There's no really good or great option?

I think if Fincher had been left to his own devices, it would've had the potential to be amazing. The studio gave Scott his leeway, as well as Cameron's, understanding their talent. But then they tie Fincher's hands? I know he was unproven at the time, but then why hire him if you don't trust him.

I think in the end, the theatrical version of Alien 3 was really good, but looking at the work print of it shows it's potential to have been brilliant.

The theatrical version was a wasted opportunity. The DVD cut is much much more betterer. That said, the ending is my all time favourite.

I feel that the special edition is superior to the theatrical version.

I was a little disappointed when I saw it at the cinema, but never thought it was as bad as some people say. When I saw the special edition more recently, I have to say I enjoyed it.

Don't like it. It does ruin everything the characters in the second movie fought for. And the Alien effects in it are worse than in Aliens.

The death of the Alien was also pretty dumb, in my opinion.

It was better than Aliens--not that that's saying much.

Neither.
Somewhere between meh & good.
That said it's been a very very long time since I've seen it. Maybe I should refresh my memory one of these days.

I love Alien 3. It is a brilliant misunderstood masterpiece. What is the misunderstanding? The misunderstanding is that it is Alien 3 and NOT Aliens 2.

IMO the BEST of Alien's sequels.

Don't blame the studio, it was Fincher who came up with the appalling storyline and screwed over Aliens

Re: What do we think of Alien 3?

I hate it. I'm on board 100% with Cameron when he says that they had such an opportunity there to use Newt and Hicks to do something more than just a Ripley vs Alien story and they wasted it. I can't stand when movies do that, take all of the setup from a previous movie and just throw it out the window. Its like Worf in Nemesis, you take the years he spent on DS9, you take the fact he is the best friend of the Klingon Chancellor and the Federation's ambassador to him... and chuck it out the porthole in favour of having him be the weapons officer on the Enterprise. Its like... WTF?

Cameron was offered Alien 3. He said no. He lost the right to bitch about anything they chose to do from that point forward.

I was great, and shows what happens when you take the lovey-dovey nonsense from Aliens and put it in the REAL WORLD.
