$$$ movie tickets $$$

I just read that here, in San Diego, the cost of a movie ticket will go up to, get this, $15.50 for general admission. Luckily I am a VET, so I get my tickets on base for $7.50...but hell, $15.50?? Sometimes I do payfull price because I forget to get tickets...

But get this...if I take my wife? We're talking two people..

$16.50 each? That's $33 bucks to get in the door...
then 8$ for Diet Coke 8$ for popcorn, times two...that another $32..

So, for two adults, it will cost $53 for two hours of so called entertainment..and what if the movie sucks??? Throw in my 14 year old daughter, and my 4 year old son, we're pushing $90 for a family outing..yikes....

Whats it cost where you live to go to the movies???

A general movie topic, as opposed to a science-fiction / fantasy topic, it will probably do better in GTVM.

$15.50!

Wow! That's nuts.

Tickets here? $10 for regular admission, $5 for matinee/twilight.

It's about $10 for the evening and $7 for matinee. I never go in the evening, it's too crowded and too much of a ripoff. I like going around 10 AM.

Here it is 9 or 10 depending on the theatre, no discount for matinees, kids or seniors.

Until a few years ago we had variable pricing. 12 for adults, 9 for seniors, mats cheaper etc.

Re: $$$ movie tickets $$$

Movie tickets have gotten outrages lately as well as the popcorn/coke prices.

The deals have gone away as well.
It use to be that any show before 6:00pm was considered a matinee showing now it's like anything before 2:00pm.

And I just discovered that they screw you on the free ticket offers.
Before you couldn't use them the week a movie came out, now it's the first 2 weeks it's out.
I gave blood at the bloodmobile in front of the AMC and they gave me a free ticket that I still haven't used because of this.

The quality of movies has really fallen so much that I am really selective on what I want to pay to see.

The theaters or going the way of the post office.
The post office keeps raising their rates so more and more people start paying their bills on line.
Why don't they get they are just shooting themselves in the foot?

Lastly all you folks that think Johnny Depp (or whoever) deserves 60 gazillion dollars to make a movie are helping drive these ticket prices up.

Good job.

At our local, it's GBP5.00. Some of the other cinemas nearby go up to GBP7.50 or more though.

For $15 here (Chicago), you can see the movie in IMAX. It's a much better, much more engrossing experience than a normal theatrical viewing, so it's worth the extra $5.

Sounds like you're getting screwed.

But why are you paying $8 for Diet Coke? Just have your wife stick a few cans in her purse.

Re: $$$ movie tickets $$$

I've found that drive-ins have been the best way to go lately. Luckily there are 2 pretty close to me. One is $6.75 a person normally and $4.75 on Tuesdays. It's nice for me because I usually only go with just my boyfriend, but it would suck if you want to go with your whole family. When I was younger it used to be by the carload, and that is much easier with 4 children.

Anyway, although these prices are comparable to regular theaters' matinee times, you get to see two movies, so I figure it's a good deal. Plus you get the privacy of your own car. And you can bring all the food you want.

It's $7.50 - $8.00 in Missouri. I can usually pick up a student discount. I don't know any theaters that offer military benefits though.

Most places here are $11.50. No discounts for matinees at all anymore.

That's crazy.

I've never paid more than $9 for a movie.

We still have matinees before 6pm. I believe it's $6.

On Tuesdays all movies are $5.

And if you wait a month or so after the big theaters are done showing movies, you can go to the cheap theater and see the same movies for $5 everyday plus free popcorn and drink.

Re: $$$ movie tickets $$$

Oh goody, another complaint thread from Rob.

Here, one can go to first-run movies on weekends for 4 bucks before noon, 6 bucks between noon and 7p, and after that full price of 9 bucks. After the movie has been playing for 2 weeks, all showings are 5 bucks (except weekends before noon, when it's still 4).

Second-run movies at the discount theaters are $1.25 before 6, and $2 after that.

And one doesn't need to pretend to be a veterinarian to get that discount.

$20.00USD in Japan. I'm just sayin'. Could be a lot worse.
At least the popcorn is cheap here. A bag of that and a soda is only five bucks.

The San Diego problem is that it sets a precedent. And a narrow minded one at that. Surely, attendance will go down. Is this really the time to jack prices for luxuries sky high?
