OT: Marco's new gig!

I figured the folks around here might like to know this. Marco Palmieri made the following post on his blog this morning:

Earlier this week, I accepted a position on the editorial team at Tor Books.

For those who may not know it, Tor is a leading publisher of speculative fiction and fantasy, headquartered in Manhattan’s landmark Flatiron Building. I’ll have the privilege of working with David G. Hartwell and Stacy Hague-Hill, two luminaries in the field. I start Monday.

I’m very excited. This is an incredible opportunity for me to broaden my horizons and grow as an editor, doing the work I love.
This is great news! Marco's going to get to edit books again! Given how much innovation and imagination he brought to Trek fiction, and given how he brought out the best in the authors he worked with, I'm sure this is Tor's gain as well as Marco's.

Hopefully it's also a sign that the publishing industry is starting to recover from the economic crises of the past couple of years, if they're hiring editors again.

Oh, and by the way, it's interesting that he's working with David G. Hartwell, since it was Hartwell who founded Pocket's Star Trek novel line thirty-odd years ago.

Awesome news! Congratulations to Marco. Thank you for posting this, Christopher.

Interesting tidbit about Hartwell. I didn't know that particular piece of trivia.

And the Flatiron, of course, doubles as the Daily Bugle building in the SPIDER-MAN movies, so we can expect Marco to start persecuting Spidey any day now . . . .

Oh that's fantastic news!

Is there any way to know what projects a certain editor has been responsible for? I loved so much what he did with Trek that I kind of want to buy everything he commissions.

Watch as the number of writers posting here plummets as they all start working on new pitches for Tor...

IIRC, it was also the building where April O'Neil worked in at least one incarnation of the TMNT franchise, so Marco will soon be surrounded by a variety of fictional journalists.

And it was also blown to smithereens in the GODZILLA remake.

Wasn't it also the location of "Veronica's Closet"?

Congrats Marco!

Re: OT: Marco's new gig!

I would also be keen on seeing what he edits. It might even cause me to spend even more money on books.

In 2009 I spent around $5,000 on books. In 2010, it was probably less than $500. Here's hoping 2011 is more like 2009.

!
Yep!

And, as a long-time Tor-ite, I couldn't be happier that Marco has signed aboard.
