At least the Johns/Batman should be interested. The other is the usual smoke-blowing bombast.

Re: DC Announces Batman Earth One and Superman Earth One!

Superman: Earth One artist Shane Davis on the project.

Not sure if I'm going to like this version of Clark Kent--seems very Smallvill-ish to me. As much as I have been curious to see JMS's take on the Man of Steel, I am a bit apprehensive. For years I wanted to see Kurt Busiek write the ongoing Superman comic, then I got it--and I was sorely disappointed.

I'm hoping for a more naturalistic take on Superman in this book, along the lines of Busiek's brillant Superman: Secret Identity, but I'm not sure that's what we're going to get.

Wow... so not only are we getting the unnecessary retread origin story in "Superman Secret Origin" but ALSO at the same time in "Superman Earth One"?!

The timing does seem poor.

I'm not a big fan any sort of Alfred backstory: Alfred works best when he's just a Damn Good Butler.
Even since the beginning (aside from the very early issues that kind of played him as a comedic foil), he's been called on to aid and heal and at times even physically defend Bruce/Bats. He would lay down his life for him. I think an intelligence officer, soldier or combat medic back story makes a lot of sense for an Alfred who would have been of age during WW1 or WW2 in England when any able-bodied man would have been called to war. Does the post-crisis Alfred have the same back story as he did when I was a kid? I haven't read more than the occasional Batman comic in decades...

I don't like "tough guy" Alfred, but "capable" Alfred suits me just fine. He's never been just a "serve the tea" kind of butler, he's Bruce's friend, ally and in many ways a mentor and second father.

After reading that I will pass. Don't think it will interest me at all. 21 year old Supes doesn't work for me. Is Jimmy going to be older than him now?

Not too keen on the new costume for Batman. People complain that the shorts look like underwear, so they give him a suit that looks like longjohns (complete with flap!!!!) hahahahahahahaha

Anyone else see Christian Bale in Frank's Bruce Wayne?

Badass Alfred (with a tat and ripped arms) leaves me cold.
I didn't really agree with your statement when I read it over on Newsarama, either...as far as the new costume goes, I'm just glad to see the yellow circle come back. I didn't like it much as a lad, but ever since Frank Miller explained it in The Dark Knight Returns, I've thought it was a great idea, and besides, it breaks up the monotony of all that black and grey. Also, the redesign looks functional without being all one colour, like the movie suits have been.

Don't really see Christian Bale in this Bruce Wayne design either (if anything, he looks like a Paul Gulacy drawing, which is no bad thing). I'm kind of with you on the Alfred thing, but let's face, Pennyworth has looked more or less the same since he stopped being fat back in the 40s, and more than anything else, this Alfred redesign tells you immediately that this is a different take on things.

Yeah this would have been the perfect chance to put him in a black movie-ish Bat-Suit, which would have made me interested.
But they more or less did that, years ago, when Bruce Wayne came back at the end of the Prodigal storyline - he had a full black bodysuit, cape, mask, boot, gloves, everything except the utility belt and chest symbol. And as we've seen from the abortive attempt to stick the comic-book X-Men in black leather, what works well on film doesn't necessarily translate in a comic book (and indeed, vice versa).

I don't remember that. Are you talking about when he lost the trunks? That still looked gray to me. I think that the all black would work just fine, the problem is that Bat-fans would lose their mind, kinda like how Spidey fans lost theirs. The X-Men have basically modified their uniforms to be a cross between the two, no? However, I freely admit I dislike greatly the whole concept of mutants and the X-Men.

I don't mind him having been in the war-- like you said, he's the right age-- but the MI6/SAS/whatever it was in The Dark Knight stuff always seemed fairly pointless.

These are all things a Damn Good Butler should do...

I dont mind updating Alfred's look, but this version looks like he should be called "Deathstroke" and wont be the voice of reason that Alfred has been for the last twenty years or so. He looks to be the type to encourage Bruce's psychosis and not rein it in. But I coud be wrong.

Alfred has a secret service history inserted into his back-story at least 10 years before that.
