Dexter Season 4 Alternate Ending

Would it have been more of a game-changer and a cliffhanger for the season if it had ended with Dexter having his romantic getaway with Rita and, after they put Harrison to sleep, Rita takes Dexter aside and tells him she knows he’s a killer?

She could have pieced it together somehow over the course of the season which would explain her behavior like her anger over the apartment or her talk about accepting Dexter’s darkness.

Also things could have taken a twisted turn after such a cliffhanger if it turns out Rita may be growing her own Dark Passenger.

The real alt ending was going to be Dexter hears some sicko broke out of jail and decides to kill him over meeting Rita. I kid you not. So be happy it's not as lame as that.

I knew about that alternate ending but I'm just saying: what if?

The show's about Dexter, not Rita.

Agreed, we also have Deb already starting down that path. no reason to double up on that plotline.

I loved the finale exactly how it was. Although the ending stole the show, that scene with Trinity right before was THE kill scene of the series if you ask me.

Sorry, Joe, don't mean to be cruel, but Rita was never that smart. Pretty self-obsessed, as far as I could see. "Dex! It's all about meeeee!"

Re: Dexter Season 4 Alternate Ending

Jesus, I think I’ve had it up to here with all of this “Rita is stupid and weak” bullshit.

Season 1, she stood up to her ex-husband by hitting him with a baseball bat.

Season 2, she broke things off with Dexter when she found out he slept with Lila, held her own against her mother, and shown that she won’t break into a million pieces without Dexter in her life before taking him back.

Season 3, she decided to keep her baby and presented Dexter an ultimatum with no chance of changing her mind, became a good friend to Miguel’s wife who definitely needed considering who she was married to, and went ahead with the wedding despite the craziness brought on by her pregnancy.

Season 4, she was pretty much accepting of Dexter smashing the lights and having a shed in the back, and she had a right to be angry at Dexter over the apartment which is the latest in Dexter’s list of lies to her. Rita may have made the mistake of kissing Elliot but you all make it sound they already had a sexual affair behind Dexter's back and were laughing off their asses when thinking about him. Remember, Elliot kissed Rita. She may have kissed him back a little but it was out of reaction. And you didn’t hear her say, “Alright, Elliot. I’ll go with you and leave my husband to have a truly normal life.” She just says, “I love Dexter,” which is evident in how she didn’t let Elliot visit the house anymore in the episodes after that, told Dexter about the kiss out of honesty, and made that bag of ice for Dexter’s hand after he punched Elliot.

Rita may not be perfect but the same can said for Deb, LaGuerta, Baptista, Quinn, Masuka, and Dexter. All characters who I've hearing from other fans deserve to be killed for the fact they are annoying which is a common reason used by fans of many other TV shows.

The reason why I started this thread is because I saw the potential for her having her own dark side with how she “liked” Dexter punching Elliot, her mysterious past with her first husband, her mention of being quite the party girl back then, saying she accepts Dexter's darkness which kind of hints at her knowing Dexter's secret already, and covering up for Dexter after she found Paul’s shoe and refusing to tell anyone about it except Dexter.

Maybe most of this innocent, perfect Rita we've been seeing in past seasons is an act she was forced into putting on after what happened in her first marriage which I suspected could have been a murder at her hand. Maybe she has her inner Lila which could have been slowly emerging through as a result of her discovery of Dexter’s secret. I just want to know what would be the consequences of such a plot twist on the show? Would this have added the spice and depth many wanted Rita to have?

And Rita finding out Dexter's secret would be different from Deb finding out the secret because Deb would be launching her secret investigation into Dexter's past in a police manner once she finds the shredded photo of Laura Moser while Rita would piece it together based on her everyday family life with Dexter.

Especially when you go back and watch it in the context of Rita's death.

That was the way to end the season. It's a good series ender too if it had come to that but I'm pretty sure there is another season after this so it will be interesting to see how that goes. That ending was brutal in every way possible. Dexter might be a sociopathic serial killer but he's not entirely heartless or selfish so I'm looking forward to the aftermath. He's already taken care of the Trinity Killer so what's he got left for revenge?

All we need is Quinn saying, "I'm watching you, fucker...", and things will shape up to make an itneresting fifth season.

Not %100 sure about her "death" anyway. I'll believe it when they show her going into the ground.

Re: Dexter Season 4 Alternate Ending

They really didn't build up what Rita knew to the point where she'd think he was a killer. She'd be more likely to think he was a rage-o-holic who'd just hidden it well till then; was having troubles at work that was driving him round the bend; or had relapsed and was using drugs again.

There would have to be a bunch of stuff she found out "off screen" but that would be a cheat. Nope, the writers were right to kill her.
Also things could have taken a twisted turn after such a cliffhanger if it turns out Rita may be growing her own Dark Passenger.
Dark Passengers should be the product of some unusual trauma. As an abused wife, Rita doesn't qualify. If abused wives all became serial killers, the world would be a very dangerous place. Serial killers are rare so the thing that creates them must also be rare. They already show serial killers being unrealistically common (Miami must be the serial killer capitol of the world) which is why I object to the idea of regular characters being turned into serial killers.

It's already ludicrously far-fetched that in one family, the sister was engaged to and nearly killed by a serial killer and then her boyfriend was attacked by a serial killer and then another boyfriend was murdered because he was hunting a serial kiler, and the brother was threatened by a serial killer/co-worker and then his wife was murdered by a serial killer. The Morgan kids are serial killer magnets!

Nah Rita needed to die, but I wish someone would have figured Dexter out.
It's gotta be Deb, but here's a thought: could it be Astor?

In S5, assuming Astor and Cody go back to live with Dex (did he ever legally adopt them?), I can see Astor doing what eldest kids often do in that situation, putting childhood on hold and trying to raise her younger siblings as a parent. Instead of a snotty brat, Astor might become sadly mature and serious, and intensely loyal to Dexter as the head of their fractured household and the guy who has to hold them all together. If she learned some of the truth about Dexter, she'd be too worried about the police breaking up what's left of her family to even think about ratting him out, and a 12 year old kid isn't going to be thinking about abstractions like law and justice.

The reason why I started this thread is because I saw the potential for her having her own dark side with how she “liked” Dexter punching Elliot,
That's just her egotism - she likes having guys fight over her. Common female reaction.
her mysterious past with her first husband, her mention of being quite the party girl back then,
She slept around and was irresponsible. Nothing particularly psycho about that.
saying she accepts Dexter's darkness which kind of hints at her knowing Dexter's secret already,
Or she knows he has a bad temper. Lots of people do. The fact that he seems to be trying to suppress it makes her more understanding.
and covering up for Dexter after she found Paul’s shoe and refusing to tell anyone about it except Dexter.
The writers just plumb forgot about that one.

Do you think JFK was fine too after his brain was blown out? She is dead, there is blood everywhere and she had no pulse, she is dead as dead gets.

Maybe it was food coloring. First scene of S5, Rita jumps out of the tub, buck nekked. "Hah hah, Dex, gotcha!"
