Predict Bajor's religious future if Opaca had stayed Kai instead of Winn

I believe it was the will of the Prophets that Winn rose to Kai. She had a role to play in the sealing of the Pah-Wraiths in their prison and that role was to betray the Prophets.

The key point would probably still be Kubus Oak returning to Bajor. He would try to buy his way back to Bajor with the circumstantial evidence of Bariel's involvement in the Kendra Valley massacre, Bariel is still the next in line for the position of Kai, Winn would still want the position and would use the info to discredit Bariel. In turn that would probably also discredit Opaka even if her role is kept hidden since her hand picked successor is seen as a traitor. Opaka might choose to step down (Prophets could give her a push) or Winn might sway the Vedek Assembly into removing Opaka, if they can, and once again Winn would be the only option and the plan would be back on track.

Life on DS9 and Bajor would have been dull, dull, dull. That would have left the Dominion almost entirely as the source of conflict in the series. Say what you want about Winn (and by the way, that's a "No Winn Scenario"), she was trouble, and DS9 excelled at having trouble.

I really didn't like Winn but I realize, as the rest have stated, that she had an important part to fill. The religious story line that I found very true to life would have been nothing without her.

Winn would probably have had Opaka assassinated or forced out of office. That's just how Winn operated, up until the end. She just oozed menace. Winn could make just one word ("Child") sound like the most devastating insult imaginable. Kind of like on old Law & Order episodes, Ben Stone did the same thing whenever he said the word "Sir."
