And the society should be more advanced that the Colonial one right?
Uh, Caprica *is* a colony, you understand...
Keep in mind, that at the time of the show, the Colonies are not unified. So therefore, this is not really a depiction of "Colonial society" the way BSG was.
Oh. Right.

How long before nuBSG did unification take place?

52 years before the miniseries, either immediately before or, more likely, immediately after the beginning of the Cylon War. So, six years after the pilot of Caprica.

I thought it was sixty years? Wasn't there a line in Colonial Day that said something about the Colonies being united for sixty years?

If so, that can be explained away as an approximation.

Nope, they said fifty-two.

Still not seen the pilot (want to do, but UK/R2 won't let me yet) but I saw this poster on the SFX website yesterday. Almost looks like they're trying to cash in on the True Blood/Twilight phase with the vibe/look/style of the poster.

I also had to look up the age of the actress, Alessandra Torresani, to see if it's allright to perve. She's 22, I guess that's ok then, though she looks about half that in this pic-

Still...
Good lord, there's something so wrong, yet oh so right about this pic.

That is one pretty girl, indeed. I wonder what role she will play in the series. I rephrase, not who she will be but how big the role will be.

She's the lynchpin of the whole story!

Okay that's a strained metaphor at best but we wouldn't want this story to be boringly straightforward.

Re: A Look at Caprica

Well, isn't everyone saying she's the Eve? One of the first consequences of Eve gaining the knowledge from the apple is becoming self-conscious of the fact she's naked. But while the Biblical Eve felt a trifle shamed by this loss of innocence and wanted to get clothing, this Caprica Eve is a trifle more titalling and coy - but eh, same difference.

After all, if BSG could give us angels who screw us into behaving according to God's plan, then giving Eve a similar edge works just as well.

And even ignoring the poster, let's not pretend that it's irrelevant that our father figure has a fantastically beautiful daughter and not a portly and rotund daughter. People want to see pretty people on TV and it's not terribly hard to deduce why, so well, let's oblige. 'Watch this show and you get to ogle this girl!' the poster exclaims, and I'd expect the TV series will deliver.

Will it also deliver an interesting sci-fi premise and consistently entertaining drama? No idea, but I hope so.

So in a sense the Cylon War is responsible for this? The colonies put aside their differences and formed a unified government so as to more effectively fight the Cylons?

Re: A Look at Caprica

That seems the most likely course, though they've never said it outright. It's also possible that federalization came first, and being made redundant by a permanent end to war between the Colonies is what sent the Cylons over the edge and caused them to rebel. But the implication has always been that the federal government was a direct result of the cylon revolution. Take, for instance, the fact that they have a line of succession that goes down forty-some places and a doomsday beacon set up to maintain it. This is not the attitude of a government formed in a climate of puppies and sunshine.

I wonder if we'll see cylon model actors popping up all over the series as a precursor... they have to had been modeled from someone, right?

As far as I remember, RDM has always maintained that the original seven Cylons did not have original humans who were 'models' for them - their appearances were as artificial as the rest of them.
