"The Power Of Love"...

.... Whose iconic 80s pop song of the same name was your favourite?
  • Frankie Goes To Hollywood
  • Huey Lewis & The News
  • Jennifer Rush (although Celine Dion did the same song later )

(This thread was inspired by a thread in another forum I frequent on a semi-regular basis, which asked the very same question. Everyone was baffled. Kids these days... )

Just to remind everyone what I'm on about:

So... whose "Love" was the most "Power"-ful?

Huey Lewis.

Never heard the 1st song and the last one is crap.

Besides, it's HUEY LEWIS AND THE NEWS!
.....Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercial and artistically....

On this board? If the song from Back to the Future doesn't trounce the competition, I will eat my hat.

Huey Lewis and the News. Easily.

Huey Lewis & The News, baby!

You don't need money, don't take fame,
don't take no credit card to ride this train,
it's strong and it's sudden,
and it's cruel sometimes,
but it might just save your life..
that's the power of love!

Somehow Celine Dion's version of The Power of Love is better, which is strange thing to say. Though, Rush has that awesome 80's hair.

You forgot one:

Okay, it was a hit in 1991, and you said iconic '80s songs, but the Jennifer Rush song wasn't a hit until Celine covered it in the '90s either.

Much as I love Frankie, I really hate their version of TPoL. Well, to be fair, I don't mind it, but the "hooded claw" line just makes me think of Penelope Pitstop and it kinda takes me out of it.

I do really like the Jennifer Rush song, its a good fist clenching 80s ballard. But of course it's all about Huey Lewis.
BTTF is my favourite film of all time after all.

Hadn't heard the Frankie version before. One of my mates loves the Rush version and insists on putting it on the jukebox when we go in a certain pub.

For me though, it's gotta be Huey Lewis
