Too short? Seriously? It's 2 hours long, it's a standard movie length... longer than Razor was if I recall.

Indeed. The only BSG that's longer than The Plan is the mini series, and possibly the DVD version of Daybreak.

Re: The Plan - Grading & Discussion

Finally saw it... I hadnt felt too motivated for some reason, I guess BSG had sort of left my mind. But I got the DVD today, sat down, and fell in love with the series all over again. I thought it was fantastic.

Let me get the criticisms out of the way first though.

It didn't feel like a cohesive movie. There was barely a narrative, it was more of a retrospective meditation on the series with plot elements and character elements fleshed out in the process. I can see the "clip show" concern... but it's definately the best, most compelling and well edited clip show ever made. I also thought it would go further than the end of season 2, but it worked out well in that framework. I just wish there was more behind the scenes of New Caprica and beyond, since that was the time the Cylon "plan" seemed most discombobulated.

Overall I'm very happy with it. I'm happy the Simon model got some character.... so Simon is the one cylon leading the "love research" agenda. That's interesting.

The opening scenes of the attacks were breathtaking and we finally got to see some visuals of the other colonies, and explanations of their major features from the hybrid. Loved that.

I imagined that they would find a use for the "I was wondering when you'd get here" scene with Six, but it was still a thrill to finally see it, even if it was sort of pedestrian.

I'm happy with the Shelley Godfrey explanation too. I never liked that some people thought she was a supernatural entity. Kara's ending was hard enough to accept, I didn't need another thing like that. Oh and it was cool seeing yet another starkly different Six model. It really cemented the idea that theres a reason we always called her Six and every other model by their assumed names.... she was the one model that never had one set way.

The tidbits with Leoben were nice. I got chills at the moment they edited in the montage of Starbuck's destiny. It's as if that was the moment it was crystalized in his mind.

The story between Tyrol and the new knuckledragger was great, too. And she has a nice ass (yay nudity on BSG!)

And boy, Dean Stockwell is just fantastic. The two Cavil's different paths was a great way to frame this story. It was the one thread holding it all together. If not for that it would probably lose all cohesion.

Probably forgetting alot. But damn, I give it excellent. And now I have to say goodbye to the show all over again.

No, a centurion walked into bridge, Six looked up at it and said, "It's a shame they don't understand what we're doing for them." A Doral said, "I think they're grateful in their own way," and a Sharon said, "I know I'd be," and there was another shot of the centurion looking sort of dumb.
I think it's supposed to imply that the Centurions should be grateful that the Skinjobs were finally seeking vengeance against the humans who had previously enslaved them.
I'm pretty sure the Skinjobs are the Cylons that the humans created and went to war with, the final five agreed to give them human bodies/resurrection technology which ended the first Cylon war.

The current centurions seem to be slaves created by the original Cylons which is kind of ironic.

I like how Cavil says he wants to smell dark matter when, in Futurama, dark matter is just Nibblonian poop. Took me right out of the ending though.

Re: The Plan - Grading & Discussion

The Plan? -The Plan?!?
The plan was frakked up from the very begining because every single human was supposed to have been wiped out in the initial attack of the colonies. I don't think that was a realistic goal in the first place.
What really frakked up the mop up operation after the attacks was that pesky human emotion, love.
Boomer loved the Old Man and bungled the assasination. Simon loved his family and spaced himself instead of blowing up his ship. All the aware Cylons were swayed by their interactions with humans.
Cavil's plan never had a chance, because the one thing the Cylons were missing, procreation, apparently requires more than artificial insemination, breeding farms, and mythical hybrids. Perpetuation of a sentient species requires LOVE. Because with ressurection capability the Cylons didn't truely love life. They could always just upload again and start over. Death is what gives meaning to life, and without death, they could not love life, or each other.
It was right there in Simom's suicide note to his wife, "Love outlasts death".

And that's the moral of the story, I thought it was a good one.

Just finished it. Didn't really redeem the series for me but it did remind me how mind-blowingly good it was early on.

I have to admit I was disappointed that we didn't get to see the attack from other Battlestars and such or that there weren't too many new main characters (besides the engineer and her husband). But I understand considering it was an obviously small-budget production. The green-screen on the explanation of Caprica-6's "contact" was horrible.

Overall: Meh. Wasn't a waste of time but nothing to write home about either.

We see quite a bit more bare-assed Colonial soldier than I would've expected in a quick scene in one of Galactica's co-ed showers.

Moreso when you consider that, in all likelihood, Edward James Olmos himself explicitly ordered the camera man to do it.
"I really want the audience to know this guy has a penis so they can relate to him." Or something.
Apparently it was a little more blue than that. Katee Sackhoff fills us in.

Just seen this and apart from the opening attack which didn't show enough it was way too long and dragged out. Also that bit where Cavill killed that kid didnt sit right with me sometimes they take things too far.

How is that taking things too far? That's tame for Battlestar Galactica and also tame for a man responsible for engineering a genocide with nothing but glee.

Also, upon examining the aerial view of Caprica City, it looks like the city was inspired by NYC...

The basic layout and form of the landmass is reminiscent of Manhattan and Queens/Brooklyn, there are two bridges joining the two areas, on the east side of the island, and there is even a small "in between" island/area, similar to Roosevelt Island. BTW, if anyone has a larger, HD version of this view, I'd love to see it.
It's Vancouver, BC. The downtown peninsula. Doesn't even look altered all that much.

The first bridge at the mouth of the inlet (False Creek) is the Burrard Street Bridge, the second is the Granville Street Bridge, crossing over Granville Island and the last is the Cambie Bridge. The big white thing by the uppermost bridge is BC Place and the white structure jutting out into the inlet on the opposite side is Canada Place. I'm posting from about three blocks in from the beach.

The Cylons dropped a nuke on my neighbourhood.....

Just finished watching The Plan and I have one question. How the fuck did an ugly chud like Edward James Olmos score an A+ piece of pussy like Lymari Nadal? Is the man that rich or does he have a dick he can pole vault with?

Re: The Plan - Grading & Discussion

Saw this last week and decided to put in my two cents. I voted an average, for Galactica this was actually a below average show for me, but in terms of TV and movies in general thats above average. So I settled on average. I was hoping for a bit more on the destruction of the Colonies, battle in Virgon's orbit and the like. I also was hoping that they would explain Godfreys disappearence by showing she was "angel six" manifesting herself. I know thats not a popular opinion, but hey its mine.

All in all though it was a good episode and it did add to the myhtos a bit. Showing how fleet Cavil was running things on the Cylon side, and how Caprica Cavil demonstrates that the Ones could have come around to accepting humanity. That said I am one of those who beleive in no forgivness for the Cylons, they nuked humanity and killed billions. There is no forgivness for attempted genocide.

Well, the Cylons felt the same way, so what are you going to do? I mean, the humans bred slaves and then forced them to murder each other for sport.
