Classic film & TV babes....

I miss the style of previous film and television women. They could be sexy without bordering on skanky.

So lets see 'em if you got 'em.

Sophia Loren

Jane Fonda

Kim Novak

Judi Holliday

Raquel Welch

Joan Crawford

Merle Oberon

Barbara Stanwyck

Elizabeth Montgomery

Diana Rigg

Barabara Eden

Olivia DeHavilland

Honor Blackman

Ava Gardner

Greer Garson

Maureen O'Hara

Lana Turner

Hedy Lamarr

Jean Arthur

Natalie Wood

Susan Hayward

Ann Dvorak

I know there are tons, but my memory is foggy this morning. Anyone else got nominations? Share 'em.

Fabulous picture of Joan Crawford. She looks quite contemporary.

Except she doesn't look the least bit skanky.

Actually the only real thing that distinguishes these women from today is style. Of course they are really no more beautiful than today's women other than how they are presented. Women of the past telegraphed sexuality more subtly. They could be flirtatious and kittenish and even assertive in their own manner. You could even imagine them swearing, but behind closed doors and out of public scrutiny. Otherwise they generally presented themselves as ladies even if they had a degree of edge to them. They were classy.

There are still such women today, but many seem to telegraph sexuality in a more basic manner. To me they often come across as borderline tramps.

I also find women of the past more distinctive from each other wheras I find many of today's celebrities are almost cookie cutter in appearance. So many of them look so much alike.

Lauren Bacall

Kathleen Turner

Myrna Loy

Greta Garbo

Betty Grable

Carole Lombard

Elizabeth Taylor

Rita Hayworth

Faye Dunaway

Lee Remick

Leslie Anne Down

Jenny Agutter

Not skanky at all. But then, not all modern women look skanky.

I will be jingoist and say that Sophia Loren is probably the sexiest of them all. Ava Gardner and Lana Turner, however, can challenge easily that opinion.

Yep. Ain't she a dish? I'm sure you'd see her picture in the dictionary under the definition of class.

Angela Lansbury (if you can believe it)

Katharine Hepburn (f you can believe it)

He's not the only one! That woman has been tugging at my heartstrings since I was nine years old!
