Yahoo Survival Football

Posted this in the Pick'em thread, but figured it might get more traction in it's own thread:

Anyone want to do the Survival (Eliminator as it's called on ESPN) football this year? Pretty much the rules are easy. Pick a game each week you think will be the lock of the week, and if the team you picked wins, you advance. Get it wrong, and you're out.

Stupid me, I forgot to mention what the catch was. You can only pick each team once.

OK, I took Minnesota and won. So I'm still kickin'.

My theory is at first to take marginally decent teams to beat cupcakes the first few weeks until we can see how the teams are sorting out.

Plus it would be nice to have some easy weeks down the road, where the big boys take on some 2-7 teams.

Naturally, I'll lose by week 3!

Ouch, taking Cincinatti and then losing like that - that's gotta hurt.

Yeah, it does kinda suck. I took Cincinnati because I was going by the same theory as SmoothieX. I'd almost picked Denver, but I figured I'd rather save them for later in the year.

Oh well. That's what I get for relying on the Bungles.

Re: Yahoo Survival Football

Picking Cincy as "marginally decent" is where you lost it, though.

Personally, I like to try and pick 2-3 "trainwreck" teams, and just pick against them until I can't do it anymore. Frankly, most of these leagues don't get past week 6 or 7, so trying to save the good teams for later can be a waste. There's plenty of matchups where you can find really strong teams against total shit, at least enough to get you through most of the tourney...
