Is Agnes a One Hit Wonder or Does She Have Staying Power?

I guess most of you in Europe have heard the hit song "Release me" with the Swedish singer Agnes. For instance, it was a pretty big hit in the UK and sold 200.000 copies.

I was stunned that it did so well since it seemed that her career was waning in Sweden. She won the Swedish version of Idol in 2005 and had big hit with her first album. Her next albums in 2006 and 2008 did well, but nothing special.

Now, it seems she could be a big international star. Or is she just a one hit wonder? Does she have staying power? Could she do well in the US?

She could very well become big on the dance scene (i.e., everywhere except the U.S.), but I don't see her going far in the U.S. where it's all hip hop, R&B and teenybopper garbage on the radio.

Never heard of her.

Listened to part of the YT vid. A good voice over some very generic dance beats. If she had a good band behind her, maybe a Nightwish, there might be something. But there are too many other singers out there doing similar stuff to get any traction.

As for Idol, it seems to generate a few good singers and a lot of dross.

She seems pretty generic; any success she has will depend on arbitrary factors.

Anyway, this is more of a General Media Topic. Here comes the Magic Mod Hand Jive. Stand back! Wheee-oooo!

She will be launched in the U.S. next month. After I posted the original post, I read that she has been signed by one of largest record companies in the USA.

Ashu and species5618 that would be kind of hard since she hasn´t released anything in North America so far

But 8 million views on You Tube is not shabby. That´s pretty good.

She received tons of airplay with "Release Me" on the internet dance music stations I listen to.

However, dance music is completely ignored in the U.S. (I think you can actually count the number of dance music radio stations in the U.S. on one hand...not to be confused with pop or Top 40 stations.) The record company that signed her is going to have a hell of a time promoting her music considering dance pop doesn't fall into the buckets I described above OR the harder trance category.
