Just a little? Did you want more?

Nice design, it makes me want to watch DS9 again.

Just a little.

At least until I see some trailer action with it.

Meh...the Defiant with points. Still looking forward to the game...assuming my computer will be able to play it...

Shouldn't a future version of the Defiant look cooler than the Defiant rather than slightly deformed with pointy things?

IDK, the Defiant looks cooler.

Re: Star Trek: Online New Ship Class

I love that they have an article on the website explaining that ST:XI takes place in a different timeline to ST:O.

Who is that for? Anyone willing to pay money to play a Star Trek MMO is surely going to know that!

I wonder if Star Trek: Online is considered canon. Seriously. The answer makes a difference between me signing up or not. Yes, I'm that pernickity. I won't be able to invest in the game world unless the powers that be make that entirely arbitrary distinction.

They probably just want to make that distinction absolutely clear. Probably also there to imply that any ship designs that appear in the new movie won't be making an appearance in the game (play modding, notwithstanding).

No. Like all games, it is not canon. Only onscreen, live action Trek is canon. The animated series is still in a gray area.

Considering that we'll probably never again see post-Nemesis Trek, you can probably consider it "true-to-happen," but if we do see a post-Nemesis production, it can (and probably will) ignore whatever continuity the game has developed.

I've been around this forum a while, I do know what the official policy is. I'm just wondering if it will start to become less rigid, what with with no trek on the air and the movie franchise ditching the old continuity altogether.

^ It's possible, but I doubt it. If they would decide to bring back the Prime Universe I don't think that the writers will look at the Online timeline to see what happened, but that's a personal opinion. If it were made into the official canon though then I think that Pocket Books may have been told to change their storylines to fit the online continuity, but they haven't done so.

Well... why would pocket books need to change their continuity? THEY aren't canon, they can make their continuity however they want... there are plenty of pocket books that don't even match up with each other... although they have gotten a whole lot better at doing that in the past few years...

Re: Star Trek: Online New Ship Class

^ If something is considered to be canon by Viacom the writers have said they have to go along with it. Since the Path to 2409 is being posted on the Star Trek: Online website if this is the new canon they would have to change the storylines to accomodate it. If you look at 2380 and 2381 in the novels and online continuities they are different from each other. Even characters are explained as being different (Ro Laren, for example, has served on DS9 since 2376 in the novels and only joined its crew in 2382 according to Star Trek Online's timeline).
