Trek wins best film award

"Star Trek" Defeats "Dark Knight" for Best Film Award*

(airlockalpha.com)

This year's Portal Awards, which were voted on through tens of thousands of votes from readers over a 30-day
period, didn't come without its surprises.

As expected Heath Ledger won Best Actor/Movie for his work as The Joker in "The Dark Knight" while Gillian Anderson from "The X-Files: I Want to Believe" beat out Cate Blanchett from "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" for Best Actress/Movie.

The real surprise, however, came for Best Movie. Although "The Dark Knight" -- the second-highest grossing film of all time -- was thought to be a shoe-in, it seemed that more recent films were fresher on voters' minds, and allowed "Star Trek," the latest film from J.J. Abrams and the 10th of the
franchise, to win top honors in that category.

What--TWOK didn't win?

Was this a poll that allowed multiple voting?

Gah. I hate when people who presume to be writers do stuff like this. "Shoe-in" doesn't even make sense.

Good about the award, though.

Haha...I didn't even notice that before. It's not even a hard thing to spell.

Awesome Uber-PWNage.

TREK in quite a few respects was superior to THE DARK KNIGHT. But even director Kevin Smith said many, many months ago TREK was the best action-adventure film he'd seen since DARK KNIGHT. So I knew it was going to give Bale and Ledger a run for their action dollar.

Is Dark Knight really the second highest grossing movie ever?

Yup. $530+ million, and $1 billion worldwide.

In the US, only TITANIC has grossed more. DARK KNIGHT is #2, followed by the original STAR WARS(A NEW HOPE)at $461 million.

Yeah, I remember now. For a while it looked like DK might actually take the title from TITANIC and I was hoping for it, but defeat and disappointment rained again.

Supernatural always wins everything it's nominated in that involves online voting.

If you want a good laugh, take a look at the list of Best TV actor winners over the years. It's quite hilarious.
