Actually this has been a problem for me for a few years so what I do is put the disc in, put the stereo on MUTE and go get something to eat or drink knowing I have 1-3 minutes. Some movie companies have trailers for other films that you must skip each one separately.
When I do sit down I either skip through the still playing movie trailers or I go to SCENE SELECTION and choose Chapter 2 always.
Once it starts playing after 1 second I click on the Rewind chapter to jump back to the start of Chapter 1.
The reason being some authoring is setup so when you say PLAY MOVIE it does the whole FBI Warning/copyright law screen for another 30 seconds before it starts the film
This has worked for me pretty well for years.

True..and I don't mean to sound as if I am making fun of them, or complaining. As I get older, and after have seeing these things so many times, its fun to try and see behind the curtain, if you will, and the tricks they try to pull on his. Using kids on a set to make it look bigger, that kind of thing...Movies are magic, and I guess you can say that the director is the master magician making it all look good with much help from all the others...

Even though I know KHAN reuses FX scenes, or cuts corners by filming the entire movie on one set (exaggeration I know) doesn't change my opinion that Khan is the best.

Man, that is exactly how i feel.
Sometimes i watch the episodes/movies strictly to 'look behind the curtain' and see details such as I've discussed on the other current thread.
But, most of the time i just want to see them again and I watch it and just enjoy the story. I actually am surprised how many times I find myself dragged into the story even when i'm watching it on a 'fishing expedition'

for the 25th time.
A tribute to the quality of a 45 year old show.

folks who say they can't 'take their eyes off' of the imperfections now seen on the DVD/Blu-ray versions---I feel sad for them and wonder if they really like the show that much or just the nostalgia of watching the show years ago on TV or VHS...........

I know what you mean..in fact, for the past couple weekends, I have been forcing my self to put on the Commentary tracks...Before, I would turn them on, and then turn it the commentary off because I kept getting drawn back in....so yeah..the better movies just pull be back in and i give up looking...

This thread makes me happy that I chose a 720p TV rather than the full 1080!

I'm already seein' zippers & wood grain on engineering walls...

any more than this & I'd be so distracted I couldn't watch the eps at all!!!

Uh..because we want to. Its all in good fun and is in no way being done to belittle what they did. But when you've seen an episode, oh, 100+ times, finding these matt-paintings or zippers or what other tricks they did, is fun...F U N...fun.

My favorite, by far, comes from TNG. Part-two of Unification when you can see the reflecton of the camera man on that crystal like thing on the Romulan Senator's desk...THAT was cool...

I don't mind being ABLE to make them out, I just don't need to see them any clearer than I can now is all.

We were watching DOOMSDAY and saw some shadow there too.

Another thing I don't like? Scuffed up hallways. There's one episode where they walk down this hallway and its all scuffed up. Or finger-prints on doors..i hate that!

Who says the floors aren't scuffed by the 'ship crew' as opposed to the film crew? Heck Uhura's door 'sticks, so ships get broken and need to be fixed and get scuffed and need to be cleaned.

It doesn't matter to me how the scuff marks got there..having been in the military, and serving on many a/c's, I expect CLEAN floors. Its called XO happy hour; so actually SPOCK is at fault here! They all report to him.

Hmmmm...wasn't that dust that Kirk was looking for in the engineering room in KHAN. Maybe Kirk got hammered for having a dirty ship and learned his lesson..or..being an admiral went to his head!!!
