The weekend actuals for the box office are out -- G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra made a little less than estimated at $54,713,046, but that's still pretty impressive, especially for an August release (in fact, it's the fourth-largest opening weekend gross of all time for an August movie).

In the foreign markets, it made $43,035,972, for a worldwide total of $97,749,018. Again, quite solid, but it was fairly front-loaded, so I'll be curious to see what kind of legs this film will have at the box office.

And the casting is great too. Olivia Wilde gives Seina Miller a run for her money in Baroness hotness.

I just want to say again:

ICE DOESN'T SINK!!!!

It's bad enough when your movie makers apparently missed every science class they ever took in grade school but also have never looked at a glass of ice water!!!
I guess nobody told Irwin Allen that when he made Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea.

Irwin Allen was obviously wrong too. Ice is less dense than water. It doesn't sink, it's a scientific fact. (Unless we're talking about ice made from "heavy water" in which case I beleive it would sink.)

Well, I saw it today.

It was rubbish. But generally well-made rubbish. The cinematic equivalent of a bowl of Doritos.

How come in the middle of the movie they only give the super duper accelerator suits to the only two people on their team who don't know how to use them and no-one else? And why don't they wear the suits any other time?

He probably got demoted.

Oh if we are gonna play this for real, officers don't get demoted, they get an offer to resign. If they are demoted then they are in prison, not running special ops for NATO.

I figured he was reduced in rank stemming from the incident with Rex in Africa... I didn't realise that officers can't be reduced in rank.

Perhaps he did serve some time because of that, might explain that reference about him being looked at for recrument into the Joes, but messed up.

the weird part is they called him captain, but he wore major's insignia in the flashback. maybe he was a brevet Major but lost it when the African mission went tits up.

There's no such thing as a brevet rank anymore, and hasn't been for decades.

My pet peeve is that despite being such a model soldier, Duke had a (near criminally) non-regulation goatee shaped five o'clock shadow for the entire movie.

Plus, Duke was supposed to be a First Sergeant, not an officer.
