Secondly, why was Ripcord the only pilot the Joe's had? I mean aren't they the best of the best? Why couldn't they send planes up. They have Ace, Wild Bill, and a few other great pilots. Why just Ripcord?

That killed the movie for me is how very small they made the universe.
It struck me that towards the end with the big battle sequence we saw a ton of pilots. It just happened that was the pilot they had on hand at the time at the Cobra base. I actually appreciated the fact that there weren't 1,000 Joes running around for us to keep track of. I think that was part of what took away from Transformers. You'd see Random Character X go do something and then ... he's gone. Jolt, Sideways, Arcee's twins etc. all got that treatment in RoTF and I'd rather see the likes of Ace, Wild Bill and so on get better treatment than that.

That said, I wouldn't have minded if during the final battle we heard some call outs similar to the pilots in "Star Wars" calling out to each other to get in formation and so on, but ultimately it would have been more of an easter egg for fans than anything else.

Is this franchise going to be one and done or be financially successful enough for sequels?

It mostly paid for itself in one weekend. I'd expect a sequel if I were you.

I suspect that between the worldwide box office, home video and toy sales (a portion of which, as with Transformers, goes to Paramount), this will certainly make back its budget and get a sequel green-lit.

For what it was worth, I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. It's not high art, and it's certainly not even good, but I was never bored.

I'd say TF2 was a better crafted film.

Yeah, being skull-fucked for a solid hour with explosions and nonsense is such a great "craft."
As opposed to being skullfucked with the nonsense and underwater ballet and rotting metal instead of actual explosions?

I just want to say again:

ICE DOESN'T SINK!!!!

It's bad enough when your movie makers apparently missed every science class they ever took in grade school but also have never looked at a glass of ice water!!!

Are you referring to the ending with the base going boom? I was wondering if that was just ice or did they detonate bits of the above ground portion of the base that sunk with the ice. I think I'll look more carefully when I see it again.

I thought that the movie was awesome and entertaining as all hell. Definitely one of those "please leave your brain at the door" movies.

While I agree that they should have better treatment, I would have loved them to actually acknowledge them. Kind of like X-Men.

Sure. Hopefully in the next film we get more of a line up, maybe even flashes on big screens of a roster with photos or something.

Re: G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra - Grading & Discussion

The reason why we didn't see Snow Job, Sub Zero, Frostbite, Iceberg, Wind Chill and the other arctic operators is simple: the group we saw are 'Alpha Team', clearly the best of the best. if you want, you can imagine Wet Suit, Torpedo, Deep Six, Shipwreck, Cutter and Wet Down are in the other SHARCs. As for Ripcord, he was there for 2 reasons, one he's a pilot-trained HALO jumper and the only pilot-trained ground-pounder the Joes have and two, he was Johnny-on-the-spot. None of the rest of Alpha Team are pilot-qualified, who knows where Ace, Slipstream, Maverick, Dogfight and the rest were? back at the Pit probably or on the Flagg, flying the Howler tilt-jets. How much time would they waste waiting for one of them to arrive?

Re: G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra - Grading & Discussion

Ummm, couldn't they have sent one to Washington while Ripcord took care of the one in Moscow? I mean seriously. Time does not make any sense in this movie.

But some recognition to other team mates. I mean only 4 on the team and one of them is Breaker?

True that. You can tell Sommers is a huge Star Wars nut judging by The Darth Maulesque fights and the dog fight at the end.
