Platoon earns my vote, though there are plenty of other good choices on that list as well.

I didn't realize 1986 had so many great movies. I chose "Ferris Bueller's Day Off", but if I were offered more choices it would have been:

1) Ferris Bueller's Day Off
2) Aliens
3) Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home
4) Top Gun
5) Big Trouble in Little China

I voted for Aliens. 1986 seems like an incredible movie year. I have bought more than half the movies on this list.

Aliens. Such a well put together film. Though there are a lot of great films on that list.

An awfully tough choice, but I went with the lesser known film: "The Mission". DeNio and Irons were superb, and it was a more than compelling story

ALIENS by a light year! Not much else there I feel strongly about. I'm ambivalent about ST4.

Blue Velvet, but most of the films on that list have considerable merit.
1986 was a keeper year.

Hard to choose between:
Aliens
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Jean de Florette
Manon of the Spring
Platoon
Stand By Me

Hard choice, but I had to go with Aliens.

As much as I love "Big Trouble in Little China", "Aliens" is just about a PERFECT film. MAN, there were a lot of good movies that year. I hadn't realized that . . .
