Why is nobody discussing this show? It's one of the best shows on TV right now. I can't believe that NBC hasn't made the decision to renew it yet. In a sea of stereotypical crime-themed show, it really stands out as something different. It's like a cable show being shown on network TV by mistake.

While it is different and sometimes interesting, there's only so many human hearts, lungs and livers being prepared that I can stomach.

The fight with the other psychotic serial killer was pretty cool, I do admit.

As for renewal, that requires viewership, something this show is unfortunately lacking.

Oh, and Gillian is still hot.

Also, the cat-and-mouse game between the FBI and Lecter can only play out for so long before Crawford and Will Graham come off looking like idiots while the Chesapeake Ripper operates right under their noses. Then again, Dexter has run eight seasons...

Does anyone think that Abigail Hobbes might Grow up to be Clarice Starling?

It could be why he asked to see her "identification" when they first met in Silence of the lambs.

The fight with Tobias was like out of some torture porn set in Caligula's Rome.

I watched one episode. I found it pretty poor.

I don't mind that besides cannibalism, Hannibal bears nothing in common with the character we know and love from the movies. But the combination of no likable or interesting characters and tons of arbitrary slaughter with no emotional consequences bores the hell out of me.

I mean, why would this genius serial killer entrust his identity to some random unstable girl? Professional courtesy? None of the writing makes any god damned sense.

They already have the seasons mapped out if it lasts that long. Red Dragon will be season four. It sounds like season three would be the manhunt to catch Hannibal.

Also Clarice Starling will be played by two actresses that look nothing alike. :)

I read somewhere that they won't use that character (Starling) at all in the series.

I think they only own the rights to the characters in Red Dragon. Another network has been trying to make a Starling TV show for years.

The plan is by sometime in season three (it will never get three seasons) to be in the Red Dragon / Manhunter storyline. Probably the end so Red Dragon is season 4 fits.

I haven't been watching the show but love the characters. I really wish they had it take Dexter's place on HBO.

I love this show. Mads is so great in the part, he plays the part with perfect understatement. It's my favourite portrayal yet, narrowly beating out Brian Cox in Manhunter. I really hope it doesn't get cancelled, but I think it will.

Given the popularity of the films, I am surprised this hasn't done better. Could it be it is just too grim for people to subject themselves to on a weekly basis? It's probably the darkest show on TV right now.

Can I recommend that people who enjoy Mads in this watch The Hunt? He is really very good in it.

I quit because Hannibal doesn't know what he wants. He just does what the script says. This is a terrible flaw, to have the titular character be a cipher. When Dexter was good, the drama was about Dexter going sane and how he would choose to deal with that. Hannibal has no drama, just sensations. That episode that started repeating visuals from Silence of the Lambs was just too trite to finish watching. Not even Eddie Izzard could save that.

I've been enjoying the show, and I love that they threw in a full-on Wonderfalls crossover in one of the episodes (Gretchen Speck, who was almost killed in the second or third Hannibal episode). I'm glad NBC hasn't cancelled it already. I know renewal prospects aren't great, but I'll continue hoping.

I've been watching and really enjoy the show more and more each week. I hope it gets renewed, but I am doubtful it will. Watching Hannibal interact with both Will and Jack is interesting to watch, esp. when he was the one messing with Jack's mind re: the trainee.

It's pretty good. Some episodes were dull but the last 3 really kicked it off again.

My gripe is that there are no normal killers on this show. They're all a bunch of wannabe artists. How many times can we see someone's guts displayed in a different manner and how likely is it that one place could have so many of these nut jobs running around at the same time.

I love the show and always find it amusing to see one of the Kids in the Hall playing a serious coroner type.

I've seen the first two episodes. I don't find it all that engaging, but I like the cast. I also like that they plan to work up to the events in Red Dragon, so that's another reason to stick around. No Clarice Starling for later on? That's a real shame. Legality really gets in the way of a lot of things it seems. I hope something changes there. They have time, assuming the show doesn't get cancelled. It should have been on cable where it might have had a chance.

I wonder if they'll ever show episode 4. It was pulled at the last minute.

AFAIK, there are no plans to ever air the pulled episode. It'll only be available on DVD/Blu-Ray.

His dinner guests seemed to stomach it pretty well...

Sorry, you set it up and I just couldn't resist. :p

:bolian: The Hunt was one of the best films of the last year IMO and Mads was great, he really deserved his award in Cannes. Of course, his character in it is the polar opposite of Hannibal - a normal, nice guy accused of something horrible he didn't do and treated as a monster by his community.

It was shown outside of the US, I've seen it. I thought it was rather silly that it was pulled. It was less gory than some of the others, and the subject matter had nothing to do with Boston. Apparently Fuller wanted it pulled because it was about kids using guns to kill. So what?

There are lots of "normal" killers, but they aren't investigated by Jack's Unit for Behavioral Science, or if they are, Jack doesn't need Will's help to understand their behavior.
