Good news for any V fans out there; the new show has its Diana, and it's a very familiar face in the V world... That's right: Jane Badler (the OLD Diana) will be playing the NEW Diana. Source Edit: Can a mod edit the title so that it says "V: The new Diana is cast"?
Re: The new Diana is Cast It's true; the official V facebook page confirmed it with the following message:
Does this now make NuV a sequel series, like OldV happened and then the Visitors and their actions were erased from the timeline, or perhaps oldV and Diana happened in an alt dimension?? Wait, that's way too creative for NuV. Christ, I wish now we got V The Second Generation.
^ The way that the writers have played things up til now has been to treat things as if this is the Vs first * official * visit to Earth, even though we know that they (the Vs) have had 'sleeper scouts' on-planet for quite a while. Because of the way things have been played, I don't think it's very likely that the new V will be revealed to be a sequel/continuation of the old V, but I could be completely wrong. Only time will tell, but in the meantime, I do think it would be a mistake for fans and non-fans to go into the season expecting the two Dianas to be the same character, since, if it doesn't happen, I fear that the backlash could end up dooming the new show or casting a pall over it.
^ I figured something like that was going to happen, hence why, as soon as I realized that I'd forgot to add the 'V' to the title, I asked that a mod change it so that there was no confusion.
I found the news release and was a bit confused by this part: Are we even talking about the same show here?
They should have had her all along! I don't know why they didn't try and bring in some of the old cast sooner or if they weren't going to do the Second Generation, at least make some sort of connection to the original. Everyone is trying to make hip reboots and crap but if they did make some sort of alternate timeline or secret connection that would be worth watching now. They said they were going to break the show up into 'pods' and do mini arcs, but this should have been in the first 6 out the door!
It would be very cool if the actress accepted the role as Diana. I remember watching the '80s V series, and she was a badass villainess. Season 1 was okay, IMHO, but a lot of the characters lacked depth. For example, Elizabeth Mitchell's role as Erica Evans isn't strong enough. Either she doesn't have the charisma on screen, or they need to rewrite her character and make her more interesting. I think Mitchell is doing her best with the script she's given, whereas characters like Lisa and Tyler give such wooden performances. The first season's pacing was rather slow, too. I hope they'll improve on Season 2.
