I have a question about the Mere Anarchy mini-series. Do you have to read the entire series to understand it or can the individual stories stand alone? I'm particularly interested in The Blood Rimmed Tide but will I be able to follow it without having read the rest? Thanks and have fun, jsplinis
Each installment was written to stand as a separate story, necessarily, since they take place years apart and are by different authors, and each one has a different focus. If you pick up just one story in the middle, there will be a sense of the characters returning to a place they've been before and reconnecting with people they've known before, but then, a lot of standalone stories are like that. (How many TOS episodes had Kirk reuniting with old girlfriends?) In fact, I'd say that of all the stories, The Blood-Dimmed Tide is the one that probably works best as a standalone, since it has less to do with the people of Mestiko and more to do with the Klingons than the rest.
