I'm cranky every day. Comes from neighbor kids screaming, shrieking, and making loud noises right outside my apartment from sunup to past sundown. And I'm out of caffeine.

Well that's why I mentioned definitions. I was using the term as in gay=happy, joyful and not specifically sexuality.

 

I've got one of those just down the hall. Thank goodness she only shrieks outside my door twice a day.

 

If there was an apocalypse and you were the only one left alive on earth you would miss these noises, you would grow misty eyed thinking of the promise of life and future the sounds of young people once spoke of.

 

Actually, I'd be like Burgess Meredith in that Twilight Zone episode "Time Enough at Last", gathering everything I want to read or watch, and then losing my eyeglasses.

The Quiet Earth or Night of the Comet?

There's a Zombieland TV show that started the other night and they were sad and lonely that there were no other LIVING people when they blew up a fireworks factory and it didn't make them significantly happy.

 

Does anyone know what that probably made for tv but maybe not movie was from the 70's where everyone just disappears other than a small group of people and in their place is left their clothes?

I've got some movies from the 70s where clothing disappears, leaving behind only people.

 

I saw something far more recently were the annoying Christian went to the toilet and everyone else in the dinner hid after throwing a wad of clothes from the lost and found to hold their places, to fake the Rapture.

Yes it is!!! I saw that when I was a kid and I was terrified. It was on during the day and I was home alone and it made me feel so very awful.

The people all disappear wearing only their clothes and some white powder and all the animals go mad and vicious!

The other day I realized how much I loved Amanda Peet (romantically and completely) and realized that it's been a year since I took a break between season one and season 2 of Jack and Jill.

 

I loved 6 feet under. Every time I thought it was getting a bit stale, going into a lull it was actually building up to the next development. Some of the insanity was so familiar and believable.

 

Unless he's unreasonably cheerful all the time, that's not the kind of gay I'm talking about.

Hey I'm always slow to adopt new fashions. I was still using a vcr until 3 years ago and still haven't bought a cellphone.

I'm not that old, but talking about gay people did mean something other than sexuality back then.

It's really rough dealing with all the dictionary definition changes that occur during one's lifetime. Especially if a word used when as a kid is later described as archaic. But my parents were already in their 40s when I came along.

Edit: As an example of changing definitions, I used to collect Hardy Boys mystery books, and during the 60s some of the older books still had 1930s and 1940s copyrights. In one of those early books, bad guys were flooding a room the boys were trapped in with some sort of knockout gas. The younger brother actually said, "Frank, I feel queer." That meant something different by the 60s.
