XENA: Warrior Princess The Director's Cut

    ACT VIII

We see a ship in the distance...

    http://mikes-images.com/eps/afin4/pages/afin4_mq_446ati.htm

...and a single woman standing at the deck rail,

    http://mikes-images.com/eps/afin4/pages/afin4_mq_448ati.htm

a chakram hanging from her belt.

    http://mikes-images.com/eps/afin4/pages/afin4_mq_450ati.htm

    She's holding a small urn.

    http://mikes-images.com/eps/afin4/pages/afin4_mq_452ati.htm

GABRIELLE: “A life of journeying has brought you to the farthest lands-- "

    http://mikes-images.com/eps/afin4/pages/afin4_mq_451ati.htm

GABRIELLE: "...to the very edges of the Earth.”

    http://mikes-images.com/eps/afin4/pages/afin4_mq_453ati.htm

And then, we see the impossible.

    http://mikes-images.com/eps/afin4/pages/afin4_mq_454ati.htm

A hand has come, to touch down lightly on Gabrielle's shoulder. Gabrielle doesn't even looked surprised, as she turns...

    http://mikes-images.com/eps/afin4/pages/afin4_mq_455ati.htm

... not surprised, because she ALWAYS keeps her promises!

    http://mikes-images.com/eps/afin4/pages/afin4_mq_456ati.htm

XENA: “And to the place where I’ll always remain..."

    http://mikes-images.com/eps/afin4/pages/afin4_mq_457ati.htm

    XENA: "-- your heart.

    http://mikes-images.com/eps/afin4/pages/afin4_mq_458ati.htm

    XENA: "So, where to, now?”

    http://mikes-images.com/eps/afin4/pages/afin4_mq_459ati.htm

GABRIELLE: “I think we should Go south..."

    http://mikes-images.com/eps/afin4/pages/afin4_mq_460ati.htm

GABRIELLE: "...to the land of the Pharaohs. I hear they need a girl with a chakram.”

    http://mikes-images.com/eps/afin4/pages/afin4_mq_461ati.htm

and the chakram has truly been passed...

    http://mikes-images.com/eps/afin4/pages/afin4_mq_462ati.htm

XENA: “Where you go-- I’m at your side.”

    http://mikes-images.com/eps/afin4/pages/afin4_mq_463ati.htm

Gabrielle seems reassured as she turns to look out over the ocean.

    http://mikes-images.com/eps/afin4/pages/afin4_mq_464ati.htm

GABRIELLE: “I knew you’d say that.”

    http://mikes-images.com/eps/afin4/pages/afin4_mq_465ati.htm

Xena kisses the top of Gabrielle's head

    http://mikes-images.com/eps/afin4/pages/afin4_mq_467ati.htm

    XENA: [Chuckles.]

    http://mikes-images.com/eps/afin4/pages/afin4_mq_469ati.htm

And the camera pulls back slightly...

    http://mikes-images.com/eps/afin4/pages/afin4_mq_470ati.htm

before switching to a view of the back of the ship... sailing into the future.

And so it ends, our heroine finally knows peace. It's been a hell of a ride and I loved every minute of it. It's been a huge pleasure revisiting these eps with you.

As for Gabby? Personally I think she adventured for a few more years then went back to Potidea to live with Sarah and Lila.

I agree with you on everything... (except who her father is! ;) )

As much as various factions of the XWP fandom hate this ending, I really do see her "at peace" now which makes me happy... and its only the "end" for this karmic cycle. We know these two get together throughout history, which has proven MUCH fodder for the fanfiction writers.

    Hurray FF writers! :bolian:

And I agree with you on Gabrielle going back, eventually, to spend time with Lila and Sarah and become that famous Bard we know she should have been... before all her stories were burned in the ransacking of the Great Library of Alexandria.

Glad you enjoyed the revisit. Hell, I enjoyed the revisit when I finished the 134 eps in 4 weeks and realized I'd done it so fast that I MISSED so many themes.

And once again, I'd like to apologize to Rob Tapert, Lucy Lawless, and Renee O'Connor for not even considering their show the first time around. :alienblush: What can I say?

Mea Culpa, Mea Culpa, Mea Maxima culpa.

Silly little things I remember after all these DVDs and commentaries...

After 6 years of acting opposite her, Lucy Lawless did not know what color Renee's eyes were...

... but her HUSBAND did! (Was that a director thing, he's used to lighting her or watching her in the dailies?)

That Rob Tapert, the horror movie producer was such a sentimental old sod, feeling "honored" to be able to direct the scene by the Fountain of Strength between Gabby and Xena.

That Renee was just as sentimental as Rob Tapert, when she seemed to relish the idea that he'd changed the ending of the finale so we never see Gabrielle without Xena, after they met again on the ship.

Xena, The final moments (From the DVD extras)

But even funnier, was that Renee... 3-4 months pregnant during this episode, had NO idea what would be happening to her just 5-6 months down the road.

(Boys... don't listen to this if you are the least bit squeemish. )

I know it's sad but I kinda like the original ending where Gabby's alone on the boat, has more of a sense of truth to it

^^I can see some sense in that... it is more real, but then again the reality is what Xena herself said...

“And to the place where I’ll always remain... your heart." :adore:

We incorporate the people, philosophies we follow inside ourselves and in that way we are "never" alone.
Liz Friedman, one of the producers/writers of the show said Hercules is the hero we all hope is "out there", somewhere.... whereas Xena is the hero we all hope is inside US... somewhere. :vulcan:

I like to think of Gabrielle as the Xena fandom... and as the series ends, we fans walk away with a little Xena in ourselves just as Gabrielle sails away with her in that wonderful heart. :)

Even Lucy lawless has spoken to this idea, when she was asked what she would do if she saw something unjust going on.

She said, if she saw someone abusing a child, she'd "...go from Zero to XENA in half a second!" :bolian:

Imagine a world with 7 billion "redeemed" Xenas!

Early last year I noticed the link to Mike's images was broken. After years of providing a wonderful resource, Mike's website was gone. :sigh:

I didn't fret much for this thread, since I also used miroirdarc quite frequently. Alas, I noted last month that miroirdarc was also no longer linking.

    Bummer. :brickwall:

Fortunately, when I watched a WFC youtube vid this afternoon, I noticed a website in the credits that led me to warriorprincessnerd.com (c'mon! Who can resist a name like that???) and their links page not only discussed the missing Mike's images, they gave a new link to it vis a vie the wayback machine. :bolian:

    http://web.archive.org/web/20130317180430/http://www.mikes-images.com/

Just as importantly, when I plugged mirroirdarc.com into said "machine", I found that treasure trove archived there as well. :techman:

    http://web.archive.org/web/20130429105923/http://miroirdarc.com/xwp/scaps/

Lucky for both you and I, the edit function no longer works after 24 hours so I won't have to crawl through the thread replacing links.

Why lucky for you? Because you get to crawl through these great sites and see all the screen captures/wall papers I didn't use the first time. :)

I have to admit, 3 years after my last post in this thread, Xena Warrior Princess still has a significant hold on my heart. :adore:

In fact, the only thing keeping my hopes up after Mulgrew canceled for my June Star Trek convention in Boston is the thought of seeing  Ceasar/Cupid & oh yeah, he also played Dr. McCoy, replace her. :p

Getting back to the quintessential relationship found within XENA:Warrior Princess...

Piper and Alex's relationship (OitNB) is "one note" when compared to Xena and Gabrielle for mystery.

Jane Rizzoli & Maura Isles WISH their friendship could be as dependable as those 2 ancient Greeks.

Myka Bering and H.G. Wells in Warehouse 13 come the closest in brief moments ( season 2 & 3's finales) of sacrifice, but those were "one time things" for each character and then they went their separate ways.

Although BOTH women have grown since the pilot, Regina & Emma's relationship in OUaT is so cockeyed & their family dynamics are so screwed up that its more appropriate to speak of them as colleagues rather than co-parents or (gasp) friends.

I had hopes for Felicity and Sara becoming friends in Arrow, but its hard to be friends with an assassin who sleeps with the love of your life before running off with her girlfriend. :censored:

    Hmmm.

Maybe innocent Felicity and deadly Sara are closer than I thought to Gabrielle and Xena, certainly closer than those Warehouse 13 characters.

    What's that you say?

    "Where's the new videos?" :mallory:

How Intimate Strangers WOULD have ended if Lucy's horse didn't slip in Jay Leno's parking lot and break her pelvis.

Raw footage of the last couple of scenes.

I think I posted this in the Spartacus thread when it happened at the 2012 con.

I love how Lucy had to READ the script [3:16] to come up with an answer to Gabrielle's proposal. Of course, Lucy knew just what to adlib next to make the women in the room swoon.

I would have included the 2014 Xena con winner in this roundup, but its theme is the "evolution of Gabrielle" and as far as I'm concerned the BEST version of THAT is still the old one. :vulcan:

This popped up on my "youtube recommends" page recently, so naturally I had to watch it.

Lucy sounds like she's getting "impatient" :p with TPTB that have let the franchise slide into obscurity... although she's not shy to admit she'll not be the one carrying the baton into the next series. :cardie:

Oh, the musical she's talking about in the interview is playing at the Pasadena Playhouse as we speak, through 1/4/2015. (She's Maleficent  )

Currently she's also in an Australian TV series (2014-2015) called "The Code" as a supporting actress (in 6 of 12 episodes). It's not on Netflix yet (here's to hoping it will be there eventually since "Top of the Lake" did finally show up) nor is it available on DVD in the US region yet. The show has garnered lots of acclaim so I expect it to show up somewhere on this side of the pond in 2015.

    http://filmint.nu/?p=13659

Here's the trailer (with Lucy, of course. ;) )

Has anyone "down under" or in the UK seen it yet, and if so do you recommend it?

Oops, nearly posted this without a new Xena video. :alienblush:

    Why stop at one?

    Or two.

(Video has been taken private by original poster)

    Or three.

Hey! I needed at least one Xena/Gabrielle vid, right? :luvlove:

So I saw a blurb on an entertainment website that claimed Lucy Lawless did not like all the violence on Xena. :cardie:

So I clicked from website to website until I found the original 30 minute Huffington Post interview that was supposedly the source of said claim, and I just .

    http://live.huffingtonpost.com/r/se...less-salem-interview/55240e8202a760989100009a

People, please LISTEN to the woman before making such outrageous statements about the star of a show that had significant violence in EVERY ep, even the Solstice ep.

And remember as you listen, the woman is a New Zealander and talks with an accent.

The question from a fan was what was the most challenging role she played, and Lucy says "Physically, it was Xena. I didn't like all the fighting."

As in she didn't like to DO all the hard physical labor that was required in fight scenes. This fact she's mentioned time and again over the years, laughing when Renee chaffed under Gabrielle's "peaceful way" arc in season 4 since Renee loved doing such scenes. At the same time she was crying at the peaceful arc since without Gabrielle holding up her end, that meant Lucy/Xena had to do even more fight scenes.

Anyway, the above interview is supposedly about "Salem" and Lucy's major season 2 guest starring role, but it has a lot of Xena sprinkled through it including remorse over the lack of a nuXena on the horizon and gives insight into Lucy's NEXT TV series with (sound the trumpets) BRUCE CAMPBELL. :bolian:

I have to say, the interviewer claimed to have watched Xena as a teenager, but he was SURPRISED to discover that Lucy knew Bruce!

This next one starts with "Salem", but ends with Xena. :)

I'm laughing at how many of these "Salem" interviewers (I've restrained myself from posting them since this isn't the "Salem" thread) focus on the many Lucy characters that have same sex relationships, especially since the main 3 characters (Xena, D'Anna, Lucretia) also had relationships with men but that never seems to get mentioned. :p

In the previous Huffington interview the guy wondered if this preponderance of same sex relationships for Lucy's characters was simply because of the Xena/Gabrielle dynamic which also made me laugh.

Obviously this former teenaged viewer of Xena: Warrior Princess forgot about Xena and Lao Ma, Xena and Akemi, Xena and Cyane, Xena and the woman Alti gifted to her, Xena and M'Lila the girl who taught her pressure points and the unrequited relationship between Xena and Callisto.

I think the preponderance of such roles is something much simpler, something that Laura Prepon mentioned about herself and lesbians in the first year of "Orange is the New Black" when asked about it by a Canadian interviewer.

Dude, lesbians love me. I’m tall, I have a deep voice, I’m like, ‘Hello, catnip!’

    Laura 5'10, Lucy 5'9 1/2"

    I think Laura's on to something. ;)

If only there could be a Xena movie... So they can fix the mess that was FIN. Oh well, I take comfort in the fact that Xena and Gabrielle were reunited in the future.

Heck, you have 2 sets of X&G running around in their future / our present if you count the clones (Bring in the Clones) and the descendants from Deja Vu All Over Again (season 4) & Soul Possession (season 6)

I like this line from a recent Lucy Lawless interview...

So, with the success Lucy Lawless has achieved in recent years, including her stint on Parks and Recreation and Veronica Mars, fans must have forgotten all about Lucy’s role as that warrior princess. Not so, Lawless answers.
“No, they’re watching Xena! They just had a convention in Los Angeles. Because it was the last one, I went to honor the early fans, and one third of the audience was new fans from Netflix! A third! A third of the audience was brand-new! So, yeah, that show’s got legs. Xena — she’s got legs.”
    http://www.inquisitr.com/2000023/lucy-lawless-dishes-on-salem-and-some-xena-nostalgia/

Hmm, seems shortsighted of Creationent to discontinue the Xena Cons if Netflix is bringing in so many new viewers and thus Con goers. If we're lucky, the renewed interest from that quarter will increase our likelihood of seeing the series get rebooted. :bolian:

As for them being a couple, while it might have been debatable up through half of season five, even those diehards that clung to "the BFF" school of thought had to abandon it after the finale. That particular lingering "water transfer" kiss at the end pretty much solved the "are they/aren't they" mystery quite neatly. ;)

Its funny to think Lucy herself was on the "are they" fence until she read the FIN script. :)

That's what happens when actresses don't actually WATCH their own shows while they're working. :p

I think the "are they/aren't they" was debatable until the end of season 2. After that, so much subtext it was considered main text. The cast and crew all believed X&G were together. Now I may be in the "they were" camp but I don't think either of them were gay or even bi. Just two women who happened to fall in love with each other.

    They certainly did that. :techman:

I've been searching for more Xena reboot interviews disguised as Salem interviews but failed. :brickwall:

Instead, what I've found was something quite fun in and of itself. :)

"Xena: Warrior Princess" interviews "Captain Kirk"!

(Well, Lucy interviews Bill, which is actually even better! :bolian: )

    http://www.nzherald.co.nz/lucy-lawl...ws/article.cfm?c_id=1503656&objectid=11273186

Not sure if I like the interviewer, especially her conceit about interviewing people she doesn't know/research... but naturally I'm interested in the actress she's interviewing.

It was done while Lucy was playing Maleficent at the Pasadena Playhouse last December-January. Just don't expect any Xena in the talk

"I don't miss people. I just get into the community I'm in. 'Love the ones you're with'." :)

Hey, I was the ten thousandth and first to click on this earlier today. Maybe I'm not the only one trolling for Xena news!

Lucy's message to her Xenites this past March. :bolian:

Lucy's fav superhero and super villain.

I keep wanting to watch Salem just because she's in it but it's on too late for me:( I've seen the interview of her interviewing Bill. Good stuff:) Xena could totally knock Kirk into the middle of next week!

I even started watching Agents Of Shield but then they freaking killed her!

Don't worry Lucy, Xena and Gabrielle will always be #1 in my books. Xenite til death!

I didn't really know what the above video message to the Xenites meant, but I've since then found the website that shows her "march to victory" in the Hitflix contest over the likes of Olivia Pope, Starbuck, Oliver Queen and Han Solo! :bolian:

    http://www.hitfix.com/march_mayhem/2015

What may be even more impressive was her final defeat of this year's "super villain", Hannibal Lecter.

    http://www.hitfix.com/news/all-hail-march-mayhems-victor-xena-re-crowned

And no, I did not click on Xena 33,000 times on that last day to insure her victory. :klingon:

Heck, I didn't even click once since I was unaware of the battle.

    I am so ashamed. :alienblush:

The Last, really final this time, there will be no others (at Creation) Official Xena Con was the past Feb, and it looks like Katherine Fugate (Writer of "When Fates Collide" and Army Wives and the play that ended in a wedding proposal at last year's con) wrote another play for this year's con. If you are interested, you can find it here...

    http://ausxip.com/conventions/2015Burbank/XenaTheReturned2015.pdf

And if you can handle the audio, here's the "play" itself.

Lucy's adlibbing throughout her segment helps the narrative, including another crowd pleasing surprisingly unscripted dip/kiss. :alienblush:

An Aphrodite like we've never seen her.

    I don't think I can take Callisto as a (non-Lucy Lawless) brunette!

And for all you "Ash vs Evil Dead" people...here's Lucy as Ruby.

And so does this link to the Xena Cosplayers that weekend. I see at least 2 Joxers (both female) two Ares (1 worthy of the name. ;)) , multiple Xenas & Gabrielle's, even a Bloody Hope and her spikey son.

I haven't figured out who the old lady ^ in the plastic sheeting is supposed to be ... so if you gave an idea, feel free to speak up.

A Xena movie seems to be on a lot of minds now. :bolian:

    A DISNEY Xena!

I'm sure somewhere in the last 74 pages I've posted this video, but I just ran across it again and laughed so hard I simply had to post it again.

Its sung by Alexis Arquette, the transgender actress who played Caligula in season 6's "The God You Know" and "You are There".
