The problem is that outside of the first Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk, the Marvel films have basically been extended commercials for The Avengers. "Hey! Sit through this, because we're going to do something really big later!" They're basically two-hour world-building pieces. Now, prima facie, there's nothing wrong with world-building as a component of a film, but when you're asking me to sit through an entire movie, there needs to be more going on with the narrative than "remember this dude and this thing, because they'll show up in another movie." Captain America came the closest to actually doing something, and even then it was wrecked by a terrible third act.

The unexpectedness of Scarlett pulling off those moves is what MADE that scene so cool and fun to watch in my opinion. Much more than if it had been some buff Gina Carano type.

And besides, it's not like the OTHER hot actresses fanboys wanted in the role would have looked any more convincing kicking ass. I mean, Emily Blunt? Really?

Almost all of that, except for the obvious close shots, was a stunt double.

    Awesome.

That's the main word that's floating around my head. But yeah I could see why someone who isn't as jazzed about superheroes/Marvel etc as me would watch that and not be overly wowed (ie I suppose it does look a little Transformers with the action stuff)

But anyway I can't wait at all (can't believe its only 8 weeks away, after four years of waiting!) And am sure that there'll be plenty of surprises and twists in there that level it above your average summer blockbuster popcorn fluff.

Also, notice the pan-around shot of the team from the Superbowl trailer? Fixed the Hulk issue a lot of people noticed about it (as said at the time, they probably just hadn't 100% fininshed the CGI then but still wanted to include the shot)

No kidding? Cuz I thought it looked pretty realistic (that is to say, better than the other CGI fights I've seen).

When the Iron Man 2 trailer came out, the internet was buzzing about how you could see who the stunt double was:

Well that's kind of how MOST superhero movies are shot nowadays. Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America all had that very simple and comic booky look as well. And so did the Raimi Spider-Man movies.

There are very few (like the Nolan Batmans) that actually seem to be shot like real movies.

And in any case, I still see a lot of VERY cool shots and camera moves in this trailer. It may be comic booky in the extreme, but it works.

The trailer was quite well done. Awesome, Cool, Top Notch (insert superlative here) all come to mind. I really don't see the gripes AT ALL. I hear moaning for the sake of moaning to be Debbie Downers frankly.

The movie is going to rock!!

I was in a meeting and couldn't watch it when it debuted. The server was so busy for the last hour plus I've just been able to watch it.

It is possible to discuss content on a level beyond "I liked it, the Hulk was awesome," you know.

Edit: God, this is just the fucking goofiest thing I've seen in ages:

How on Earth did Whedon think that was a good idea, especially when the outfit from The First Avenger was basically perfect?

It wasn't a stunt double (for the most part) from what I saw in the behind the scenes in the IM2 blu-ray. They had pretty detailed cover for the training, the rehearsals of the scenes, the shooting. She did a lot of the stunts.

Yeah that costume was a bit better, but it was also very WWII. It would look just as outdated in the modern world as, say, the Rocketeer's would.

OK, now I want to know, lol. How much was CGI, and how much was real actors in motion? And for the parts (if not all) that were real actors in motion and not CGI, how much was SJ and how much was a double?

Is anything on the DVD special features? If so, I can check it out at the public library.

Nice trailer. A lot of re-hashed footage, but the new stuff was awesome.

The new view of the group pan-shot was appreciated as the Hulk no longer looks like he just materialized in the shot.

No idea about the dvd features. I suppose you could find details by googling.
As for Johansson's fight scenes from what I remember it was all physical & wirework, no cgi involved in replacing actors.
It's been more than a year since I saw the featurettes but I'd say it was maybe 90% Johansson 10% stunt double.

They are interesting if you can get your hands on them.
