A Big Hollywood Movie is defined by,
    a. the amount of money to make the movie
    b. who is playing the lead roles
    c. belonging to a well-known franchise
    d. the amount of marketing to promote the film
    e. when it is being released, the bigger films come out in the summer season (May to August)

They really ARE going after the international audience, look at the promotional tour they are doing in Japan this month! SO early for promotion!

I'm just glad Star Trek is still alive and thriving. How many other franchises other than James Bond, Dr. Who or Star Wars are still alive and raking in the big bucks and huge crowds this long after their creation?

They could have put Simon Pegg on the poster feeding Keenser kibble out of a bowl with his name on it and I'd still see the film. After the last movie J.J. earned a lot of goodwill with me.

Last night I dreamed that I had a female relative who was running in the London Olympics. I turned on the tv for her race and the only thing on the tv was THIS POSTER. I grabbed a newspaper and the only thing in the newspaper was THIS POSTER. The rest of the dream was me frantically calling her (her name was "Lum-Lum" :wtf: ) and leaving messages on her phone asking if she was okay.

"Into darkness" stands with large and clear print, however "star trek" is small and opaque. Many people will not know it's star trek. Is this part of marketing?

I think they'll know when they see the previews for it just like audiences knew The Dark Knight was Batman even though the name wasn't in the title or on any of the posters.

The first Trek 2009 teaser poster is one of my all-time favorite Trek movie posters for its elegant simplicity and nod to the classic TOS uniforms. I actually printed that out and hung it as a little mini-poster for a short while.

Nah. Though at first glance -- . Still, a high resolution shot of the poster shows the ears are perfectly human (rounded).

I hope that isn't an ear, else it's the worst makeup in Trek history.

I saw comments on the TrekMovie thread insisting there were grey sideburns/temples visible in that poster image.

    "Therefore... " [IMG]

    I'm not seeing it, myself.

Me neither. I mean, who the hell knows...it could very well be Gary Mitchell. But I didn't see any grey temples or sideburns in the poster and I'd like to think my vision is pretty good.

It will be deliberate. It's designed in a way that you take in all the other visual aspects of the poster before registering "Star Trek". They're going for mass appeal omitting the old stereotypes. Good job.

Is that a bloody gash beneath Cumby's left shoulder, or a bit of snouldering debis between him and the camera?
