Digits, what an awful situation, especially as it seams you are the one bearing the brunt of it. Thinking of you and your family. Stay strong. Everything happens for a reason. Don't forget to take good care of yourself and your little ones as well. :)

I'm doing the same. (Some will recall my liver failure a few months back). I hope my mom goes first. :(

You're in my thoughts and my prayers.

It's truly a miracle that with all the alcoholics and drug abusers in my family that I've never lost anyone close to me to one of those diseases.

I don't think I could possibly understand what you must be experiencing. :(

Like I just told someone else in a PM, it's like watching a train wreck in slow motion. There's just nothing you can do but watch helplessly and wonder why...

I returned from Southern California today. I went down to be with my sister at the end. I arrived on Tuesday. Although she was unable to speak, it was clear that she recognized me. Tears welled up in her eyes, and she reached out her hand to me when she saw me.

She looked so bad, it was unreal. If I had passed her on the street, I would not have even known it was my sister. She was skin and bones, yellow from jaundice.

Anyway, my sister died Thursday morning, 9:45. She was 38 years old.

I was with her, at the foot of her bed, when she died. I watched the whole thing happen right in front of me. I don't know that I can put into words what it is like to watch someone you love die right in front of you. So many different emotions rush in simulataneously. It was horrible and beautiful at the same time. She is released from this world now. This world she found so difficult to live in. I hope she has finally found peace.

Her funeral is next Saturday, so my wife and I will be headed back to Los Angeles for it. It will be nice to see our family and friends together, despite the sad occasion.

I do want to say that hospice is a great thing. The people we dealt with were so amazing. I will be forever grateful to them for everything they did.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by this thread and/or sent me a PM with kind words and support. I really appreciate it.

I'm very sorry for your loss.

I'm glad you were able to get down there to be with her at that time and provide that measure of comfort for her.
