I can see Matt Smith bringing a creepy boy genius vibe to the part, which would be pretty good.

I'm nine years older than he is. I can live with that.

Dodo was the worst companion ever.

    Damn no Paterson :(

Ok, quick evaluation as I'm at my g/fs and we need to go out soon!

Downside- He looks 12, plus he has the same just got out of bed hair as Tennant, in fact there's a lot quite Tennantish about him.

Upside- ok from the interview he seems quite..odd...odd is good, the Doctor should be odd, also I like that Moffat says there was never another choice, even after they saw everyone else, that says an awful lot.

So I'm torn, he does seem too young (say what you like about Davison he didn't look as young as he was) but I trust Moffat so I will wait and see.

Dmn if he ever meets up with Donna people are gonna think he's with his mum!

Paterson for the Master...the campaign starts here!

Eamonn Walker should play the Master. He even has the mad eyes and the devilish beard!

Coming between Ascot-wearing McGann and Tie-of-the-week Tennant, Eccleston could've put in more effort!

For the record, I've no problems with Five as well, but he came after a Doctor who had the trademark scarf. If you're the Doctor, I at least ask that you:
    -dress in layers
    -wear very good shoes
    -have a neck accessory

    :)

His look doesn't really do much for me, but I'll wait until I've seen a performance to give an actual thumbs up or down.

Oh, wait, I'm sorry, we're not allowed to be rational when discussing this.

    WORST. DOCTOR. EVAR.

    There. That's better.

Well at least we have seen the companions so we can judge on fact. :p

And I hope the new Doctor has two companions, a human male and a female alien, or vis versa.

Yeah, Moffat made reference to that particular irony in the Confidential.

I thought the backlash against Moffat would at least wait until 5 minutes into the first episode of series 5 - I should have known better! The Internet never lets me down!

I'm reminded of some of the fan outrage over the casting of the Lord of the Ring movies while filming was still ongoing; someone posted a leaked picture of one of the Ring Wraiths' mounts and (mock) angrily argued that the horse had been miscast in a role that should have gone to Sean Connery.

Maybe that was the point, send people out to leak a lie so then it would be a shock when it was annouced.

And people... he can get a haircut you know.

you know I hope he keeps the hair, I like the hair.

and yeah I dont think its a surprise that the press and fandom got it so wrong, we were only just talking about him last night, and only by looking at odds on a betting website.

Shit, the guy's a mere three years older than me! :cardie:

But Steven Moffat will be at the helm to accomodate him as well as RTD did with Christopher Ecclecakes, and while Matt does seem at least seven years too young for role he does have the chops, he did mightily impress me in a short scene from In Bruges where he played a youthful 1970s gangster who casually strolled into a police station and decapitated a corrupt police officer (which was sadly deleted from the final cut).

Watching "Doctor Who" fans respond to change makes some of us Trekkies feel less odd.
