Zygons? Seriously I know you'll say you don't think they'll be in it much, but they will still be in it, and they are classic era monsters, so clearly there is at least one element of the classic series in this special. I think a cameo in the biopic is probably all we're going to get, but that's still good! Well said. I think the other issue to consider here is that just because no classic Doctor has been approached to be in the episode it doesn't mean they won't be in it. I mean, Shatner and co weren't approahced to be in Trials and Tribbleations either. And it isn't like Moffat has completely ignored past Doctors. He showed them all in the Eleventh Hour, had Smith using the first Doctor's library card, heck we even got mention of a grand daughter last week!
Thank you. I'm sure it's hopelessly wild of the mark but I hope that it has some accuracy to it. The story doesn't seem to be the most detailed, nor is it entirely clear when he made these quotes, so I'm not letting it dash my hopes. Anyway, wasn't it only a few weeks ago that Billie Piper was saying she hadn't been asked?
Matt Smith doing an impressive stunt! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZYGRYzK08Yg&feature=player_embedded Dialog overheard Spoiler: dialog Doctor: "I don't like being picked up!" Kate: "I'm acting on instructions direct from the throne. Sealed orders from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the First." http://scottkandrews.com/ I love the paparazzi "conversation" BURN!
Not much different from the episode that will air this Saturday. It's the 50th Anniversary, not just another regular episode. I'm no advocate of an hour of cameos but there should be something more than, say, having someone wear Tom Baker's scarf* to acknowledge the contribution of the people involved in the first 42 years of the series. And no, old clips aren't good enough either. *
^^ Agree, we should have a bona fide classic Doctor in the story. Doesn't have to be all of them. Just so they're represented. The 50th comes just once. Mr Awe
It would be nice to have one or more of the surviving classic Doctors in the special, but I don't think its a deal breaker. I've been a fan for close to 25 years and I'm willing to judge the special on what it is, not what I wanted it to be.
Yup. I'd love it if Peter Davison popped out of the Tardis with Smith and Tennant but I'm not going to hate it before I even see it just because he doesn't.
So Trials and Tribblelations isn't a great celebration of 30 years of Trek? And in fact isn't a far more loving and enjoyable celebration of Trek than Flashback, despite the fact Flashback actually had Sulu and Rand in it whilst all Trials had was old existing footage? Execution is everything and I'd rather have something that was great but didn't have classic Docs in than something that shoehorned them all in but was rubbish.
Yeah, I don't think anyone is talking about hating it before even seeing it, so that's a red herring. At least, I'm not. And, it may be a great story without any classic Doctors. However, I'd still hope for at least one to be included in some fashion. Not just a scarf or old clips. In short, a great story with a classic Doctor would be even better than a great story without a classic Doctor because it IS the 50th Anniversary. Mr Awe
Well, sure, execution is everything. But why not hope for a well executed story that actually has a classic Doctor? They're not mutually exclusive you know. I'd rather have a well executed story that has a classic Doctor. Mr Awe
Here's a question - do we actually know if series 7b wraps up the current mystery or is it going to be another cliffhanger to be solved in the special?
I believe we've been told Series 7b leads into the Anniversary Special, which could be interpretted in many different ways, but, I personally think it means the Finale will have some kind of cliff hanger to be resolved in the Anniversary special
Strax reporting on filming http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Za6A6vh1nEk\ "... a strange race, known as, the French..." LOL
Doesn't it take HOURS to get into the Sontaran makeup? Or does Dan Starkey just look that way normally? Dare we speculate that they wouldn't go through all the trouble of getting Dan into the getup for a simple web update - is he coming back for the 50th story as well? And I was relieved a bit with Gemma coming back - if for no other reason than that it meant the shiny black SUVs were NOT Torchwood. :P Mark
And since I doubt Dan Starkey hangs around the BBC in costume on the off-chance of work I think we can safely add three more names to the cast list. It really is just another Moffat episode, with Tennant and Piper thrown in as a sop to the past.
Don't forget the scarf placed on a UNIT scientist. If they can't get another doctor actor a SCARF works just well in their place In all seriousness, don't fret yet until we know all the details.
Per Moffat, the Clara mystery wraps up by the 7B finale: "'You will uncover the mystery of Clara in the next eight episodes,' he says. 'All will be made clear. You'll get your answer.'" That was before "The Bells of St. John" aired, so he means the eight episodes of 7B.
He was in costume last week for the kids' day with Strax at the exhibition, so his entry could have been prefilmed then. We don't know they've shot any of the studio footage for the special yet.
