It's plateaued now. I am hoping that means it will decline. Depending on what you read, it already is in decline.

As good as McKellen is in the X-Men films (particularly in X2), the Magneto role is nothing compared to Gandalf. I'm glad TPTB found a way to accommodate McKellen's talents for LOTR.

    Isn't 35mm film at a 8K resolution though? Or is that 70mm?

They used film when filming the LOTR films didn't they? Does that mean that the Hobbit films will be of a lower resolution than the other films?

Actually, film doesn't have a resolution. 5K should look at least as sharp and clear as 35mm film if not moreso, especially when shot at 48 fps.

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows is a Warner Bros. release, so that would make sense to me. I guess The Adventures of Tintin might be possible, too, because of Peter Jackson's connection to that, but IIRC it's not a WB production.

They're shooting it in 3D. Lame.

In the same theatres, which most likely means the employees will mess up the lense settings for the 2d showings. Or the 2d showings will be in the little shoe box sized theatres.

And Elijah Wood came painfully close to a Doctor Who reference.

In my post immediately before yours, I just told you when the trailer would come out and where you can find it.
No, The Legend of Sigurd and GudrĂșn is not set in Tolkien's Middle-earth. It's a narrative poem he composed based on the legendary Sigurd from Norse mythology.

Awesome. Yet another reason why I can't wait for Tintin. Between The Hobbit trailer, Tintin, Sherlock Holmes 2, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, December is going to be a sweet, sweet month. :D

Knowing my theatre, they'll only offer it in 3D. That's what they always do with blockbusters.

You can, but only if you're interested in how Tolkien developed his world. The Book of Lost Tales (both of them) contain some of the earliest versions of the stories that eventually were published by Tolkien's son in The Silmarillion. They're the first two books of a twelve-book series, The History of Middle-earth, that detail the development of Middle-earth from Tolkien's earliest ideas around World War I up to assorted writings from the last years of his life.

They're more like a non-fictional biography of Middle-earth than they are actual novels or anything like that.
