I voted for Orpheus and Eurydice. Seems a natural pairing.

Ok, where's the vote to reclassify pluto as a Planet (rather than a minor one)? :p

^Hey, if you want to put Pluto back in, you also have to count Ceres, Eris, Haumea, Makemake, and possibly hundreds more to be confirmed in the decades ahead.

I find it very funny that this new definition of planet discounts Jupiter.

I voted for Styx and Orpheus, one of which has charmed me with music for years. :shifty:

I chose Cerberus and Erebus since they seemed like logical companions to Hydra and Nix, respectively.

I voted for Acheron, Cerberus and Persephone. You have to cross the first two to get to him. Persephone was his wife but I like my first two choices better.

I'm tempted to go with them, but I also think Persephone should be paired with Pluto, so I think I'll go with Cerberus and Persephone.

It seems Pluto has the coolest tales associated with them.

There's no need to reclassify anything. The scientific definition of "planet" does not need to be used by everyone.

^^^ I like these suggested names. I think some of them have already been used in the solar system (named asteroids or other moons or craters/geological features).

I don't have an IAU Atlas handy and I'm too lazy to google right now. But I could swear I recall seeing Styx or Orpheus or Persephone or Cerberus somewhere in the solar system already. Maybe it won't matter.

^Well, there's already both an asteroid and a Jovian moon named Europa. So repeats aren't forbidden.

Can we start a petition to name the Earth and the Moon. As names, they suck. I want to have a real name for the planet we live on, not a description of what's its made of. Same goes for the moon, does it get jealous when it hears people talk about the moons of Saturn and using their names. Hell even Plutos moon will have a name after this. Yet our own satellite only has the moniker of Moon.

Well, by science fiction convention, our planet should be named Humania. Or maybe Huma. Either that or Sol III.

A name that's sometimes used for Earth in science fiction is Tellus, the name of the Roman earth goddess, and thus a good fit with the other planet names. The adjective/demonym is Tellurian. Fans of classic Doctor Who may recognize that term from its use in episodes written by the late Robert Holmes.

With the current ones being named Charon, Nix and Hydra, I voted for Cerberus and Erebos.
Cerberus because the underworld needs its watchdog
and Erebos to reunite the family (Charon is the son of Nix and Erebos)
