I, also, would like to hear you play. Have you kept it up?

I'm not excellent anymore. I haven't played seriously in 12 years, and haven't even picked it up in 2 or 3. Maybe I can knock out a crappy Minuet this weekend or something to see how much my skills have deteriorated.

Also, I love when my mom's cats do this:

it's like riding a bike, just give it a little bit and it'll all come back to you

^Playing a stringed instrument is actually rather unlike riding a bike. :borg: To be good you have to play every day, and while I did learn young enough that I know I can still play, it's definitely not the sort of thing that just comes back to you after years of not playing. Playing the cello and riding a bike are similar in that both involve placing an awesome piece of human technical and creative achievement between the legs, though.

I used to play the violin and my sister played cello. I did not envy her having to carry that thing around!

Yeah...I was always small for my age as a kid. It's hard to be cool in middle school when your musical instrument is bigger than you are!

It's part of why I'm teaching myself the ukulele right now.

Speaking of your ukelele lessons, how are they going? I hope you feel more confident in your skills by now. If you ever post a YouTube video of you playing the thing let us know!

I was horrible at it and haven't played since high school. I switched to piano and enjoy that sometimes.

It only stings if you hit the wrong sharp.

    Garrison Keillor on the cello:

And of course female cellists would be banned from playing 'Hol Rock'. ;)

All I can play on a piano are the notes to the musical tone used to communicate with the aliens in Close Encounters. That impresses somebody else for about, oh, a minute or two. If that. Then its: "so....what else can you play?"

    Sad, really.

Getting situated in the new house, decided that we needed to update the mud room. Met a wonderful local carpenter through our real estate agent. He came out and built these cubbies for our children to use.

It's designed to be able to grow with the kids. I really look forward to them using it over the next decade or so.
