I wish my 8 YO male was that eager to drink water. I wouldn't have to force-feed him water 3 times a day.
Here's an adorable short film someone made. Yeah, it's being sponsored by a cat litter company, but some of the entries are actually very good. "A Cat's Guide to Caring for a Human" [yt]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xTQGatWdFOY[/yt]
I had to bring him to the vet about a year ago because he was straining in the litter box & he had super concentrated urine and possibly a UTI. No other choice really. He urinates plenty now. The other option would be having a dead cat.
I had a cat like that...I had to leave a faucet running to solve the problem;he just didn't like water unless it was very, very fresh.
My sister has a cat who does the same thing as the kitty in the video. It's not that the cat loves water that much; it's that the animal isn't bright enough to drink from the stream without sticking his entire head in it. He, you know, erm....rides the short bus to kitty school.
I only wish it were that easy. He's usually pretty good about it all. I wonder if there's something that could be added to the water to make it more tempting to them.
I usually get tuna in oil. But the strange thing is, Gremlin rarely touches tuna. Maya goes wild over it, but Gremlin likes very little outside of what comes out of an actual cat food can or bag. He's one of those "not so bright" ones I'm afraid.
I got a pet fountain for my cat for a few different reasons. And yes he is very spoiled. But he definitely drinks more water and that makes me happy.
I was going to suggest a fountain as well, if the cat really does need the freshest water possible and was turning his nose up at water from a dish. If it's a health concern, I'd say the fountain could be worth it.
As I put Diaper Kitty into her cage this morning, she went over to the litter pan, squatted, and one little drop of piddle (?) came out on command! Kinda weird to be happy about something like that, but it seems there's hope!
Yay! It has to be rough on her being caged so much, so I hope there will be further improvements, for sure.
Actually, she kinda likes going in there. She doesn't like us having to put the diaper on (the process anyway, after it's on she's fine), plus she's able to groom parts she couldn't get to. Besides, it's a cage for a 100+ pound dog, so she has *plenty* of room!
