I'm looking for music to listen to while I play STO or doing other things that is ear pleasing, and/or melodic. I am looking for sci fi sounding stuff with plenty of synthesizers and/or electronic music equipment. This interests ranges from serene, angelic tunes, to engaging 'battle' music. I love ST but let's face it, the music is highly cheeseball. THis music can come from anything, games, movies, shows, mainstream bands, it doesn't matter to me.
Check out the entire soundtrack to any of the X Universe space sim games. Someone set up a YouTube playlist containing most of them: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QsM4q2U5mx0&list=PL0D02FC4554C31F12
I really love the Assassin's Creed II soundtrack. [yt]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uH1wfrOcvHg[/yt]
Assassin's Creed is kind of outside of the sci-fi category and I don't want to listen to space sounds all too much.
Then if you want "space" sci-fi, the Mass Effect series definitely fits the synthesized bill. [yt]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oOoRrl8dFZg[/yt] [yt]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=trcTZ2fmeCM[/yt] [yt]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KBIISCnPiQA[/yt]
The Tron: Legacy soundtrack is exactly what you're looking for. [yt]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LadRcupWDuI[/yt] I also think it would have been a great soundtrack for a Star Trek movie.
Though it is piano based, The Cloud Alas soundtrack, particularly the Cloud Atlas Sextet, is amazing.
There are so many great soundtracks out there or parts of soundtracks. Sometimes the best music is the ones you hardly notice as they fit the scene so well.
Most music by Jean Michell Jarre Boards Of Canada has some awesome music as well Spheres II by Delerium Brian Eno's Apollo, that is the definitive space space soundtrack, Eno's other ambient work is probably suited as well Ayreon's Universal Migrator pt1 : The Dream Sequencer which is a sf story in music
Michael Oldfield's Tubular Bells: Part One - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m60s70qX-xw Part Two - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44U0ddz78Ys Also by Oldfield is Songs of the Distant Earth based on the novel by Arthur C. Clarke: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gxyVY7ObZls
Tron: Legacy / Daft Punk is a good shout. Bit aggressive sometimes for what you suggest, but it's fun.
Older but I like the soundtracks to the games Einhander and Wipeout XL. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y8j-RqSgVng&list=PL16F6E2A85E860DAD http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j3SI1nL_m3U&list=PL1A64FB9C7CB73691
What is wrong with Star Trek music for STO? I get why you don't like the game's own music, but putting on the soundtrack of First Contact or the 2 latest movies while playing the game rocks. [yt]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mhoa7oWPPhk[/yt]
