There are A LOT of blink-and-you-missed-them shows that never got off the ground, especially on network TV. You probably watched some of them. Recognize any of these shows? You'll probably recognize a lot of the names. I remember some of those: Snoops...Touching Evil (which I actually heard mentioned on the Trektoday boards)...Space Rangers(which doesn't come off as interesting)...VR.5 (with that girl from 'Fame;' and had a cool opening theme)...LAX (which didn't seem like it would last that long either; what did it have that set it apart from other shows?)...Big Apple (what I said with LAX)... How about 'Firefly'.....'City of Angels' (which I just found out went on for two seasons)...and 'Raines' (which is now kinda 'Law & Order: Criminal Intent, without the ghosts...and Linda Park)...?
IIRC, David Kelley's Girls Club (about some female lawyers in San Francisco) had only 2 episodes aired before it was yanked by Fox. The remaining 11 never aired, and I don't think a DVD was ever released either.
I used to watch a little show called Mr. Sunshine with Jeffrey Tambor playing a blind college professor. I thought it was funny (especially Leonard Frey) but it didn't last long. Hey! I'm a Commodore!
I liked a little show called Brimstone. Imagine a serious version of Reaper and you've pretty much got the idea.
Brimstone lasted half a season, not bad by Fox standards. Yeah, it was good, mainly for John Glover as the devil. Big Apple? Ed O'Neil, Michael Madsen, David Strathain and Donnie Wahlberg? On one show? What was the plot, did they try to out scowl or out grimace each other every week? Remember that one show where Howie Mandell played a mortician...it was a sitcom, too.
You're not the only one: first time I interviewed Tracy Scoggins, back in 1999, she was saying that she'd always regret that Brimstone had been cancelled before she could get a part on it.
that sons of thunder theme song made me laugh pretty hard. Was that a spin-off from Walker, Texas Ranger?
Wonderfalls - 4 episode shown by Fox. Odyssey 5 - 13 episodes (out of 20 ordered) before it was canceled because the Showtime president didn't understand Sci-fi.
That's the other Human Target. The one that actually had him disguise himself as the person being targeted. Basically the star of the show barely had to be in it except to take the case at the beginning and pull off the "face mask" at the end! Yes. The show tanked pretty bad, but I think one of the actors got to keep on going back on Walker.
When you have Rick Springfield cast as the 'main lead' it makes sense God. Imagine if Quantum Leap had gone with that idea for every time Sam lept into a person? A new guest star every week being the lead of your show.
This is a rip off of Star Trek, down to the insignia and the Spockequse charaacter and the Worfequse character.
I watched a few of those when they initially aired. The only one that immediately out-of-the-gate seemed great was "Eyes". It did feel like a cop-out though when the main character in the first episode or second got killed, very visibly killed. But than somehow was still alive next episode. Even so, that show would have found an audience given a season. It was slick, cool, fun and sexy.
I wanted to find the intro to Brian Bosworth's show "Lawless," but it only lasted one episode and it was on a Saturday, so I doubt anyone ever saw it or even heard of it. [yt]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKJR8BEJsaU[/yt]
Profit (1996) starring Adrian Pasdar. I think it got 8 episodes. It was brilliant, clearly ahead of its time. I love this scene where psycho Jim Profit beats a polygraph test. [yt]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9u8CSFnv4Ac&feature=related[/yt]
Mr and Mrs Smith wasn't a bad show (it wasn't brilliant either; I could see why it was canned). Probably the only thing with Scott Bakula in it I found even remotely watchable, anyway.
