Well, the Olympics opening ceremonies are going on right now and the only place in the world you can't see it live is here in the US.

    I hate NBC and their time-delayed, over-produced, warm & fuzzy, US-centric coverage.:klingon::klingon::klingon:

Why is time delayed? Are they afraid people are going to be prancing around jiggling boobies and willies?

Maybe you should ask your cable/satellite provider to carry Canadian channels? It's on CBC right now and looking pretty good. Sadly, I have to go to work in a few minutes.

Beautiful display amazingly well co-ordinated. They have 2008 tai chi dancers performing at the moment and they are excellent.

I think the dancers who did the painting as they perform (earlier in the show) were also terrific.

Yeah, the children using the "crayons" on it was cute, looks like its the centerpiece, added to as the ceremony continues.

Yes, it will be interesting to see what it looks like at the end of the program. I imagine that the painting will end up in a Chinese museum.

    Oh, here comes the athletes.

EDITED TO ADD: The teams are coming out in a strange order. Some countries starting with G, then countries starting with M with Yemen and Turkestan mixed in. Does anyone know how the order was determined.

Yeah, I love the 'stroke order' idea. Australia hasn't sent its athletes yet so I wonder how they'll be represented.

The one thing that springs to mind watching the ceremony is..
How on earth can we compete with this in 2012

NBC has an iron-clad contract with the Olympic games that restricts all Olympic coverage in the US to them. You can't even legally stream video to the US of the Olympic games.

I've thought about going up to the Canadian border to see the CBC Olympics coverage but it just isn't practical for two weeks.

Some of the African countries have great uniforms.

The Ukrainian uniform is somewhat bright.

There are some great outfits and flags here, I think the walking across the centerpiece is intentional, looks like they will display it somewhere like you said, with all the footprints of the competitors across the blue spiral path they painted. Like a walk of fame kind of thing.

And yeah, the 2012 is going to be shite as it is, but after this? man it is going to look weak.

They want the maximum audience for their expensive coverage. They apparently don't care that watching it taped takes away a lot of the impact or that not everyone can watch in prime time.

50th team has arrived, still only on 5 strokes, this is going to take a while.

Ohhhh they're all walking through ink pads then on the canvas, two pieces of art to keep afterwards.

LOL, I think its a neat idea actually, going by the number of strokes it takes in Chinese to represent the first letter of the countries name.

And wow Canada had a great outfit, even the two wearing turbins had a white and red turbin, that was cool.

Does this mean that the Olympic website's online coverage won't be available here in the states?!?! :(
