Any thoughts on Kate's hair? Like how it is no longer bright red?

    She looks extremely good there!

And Quinto.. it's like god said, "here are three absolutely gorgeous women.. but lets add this delicious frosting just to make it even more delectable.."

I think that's the color she goes with in the non-prison world. :mallory:

But aren't they filming now? or is Kate Mulgrew's red colour a wash out colour?

    hmm... BUT WAIT.

I have an in universe answer. Red's in HUGE trouble in season 2 and loses all access to a hair stylist and her hair fades with her spirit.. don't worry though, it will be fluoro neon red by the middle of season 2 when she is reinstated as cook and receiver of good things.

Good point... with silent Norma pissed at her, and her access to red food dyes limited under Gloria's regime, she could be fading, but if that was the case you would think "real world" Mulgrew would be more brown than red.

Maybe its easier for them to "eggplant her" with this baseline color, while she's on set, so she doesn't look like it off set?

Or maybe she's filmed all her scenes already?

Nice review of last week's Paleyfest panel...

    http://spinoff.comicbookresources.c...t-orange-is-the-new-black-is-the-new-awesome/

... so good that I want it on Hulu.com NOW so I can watch it myself.

Loved (naturally) the comments re: Kate Mulgrew.

    And the chicken...

    And the deflating boob.

Here's a video blurb with Danielle Brooks on the way into Paleyfest last week.

Goes hand in hand with all those late August/early September college news stories of students "discovering" OitNB once they returned to school.

Here's the thing about Kate Mulgrew. She was born for this role, even more than she was born for her role in Mercy. In Mercy she's the mother figure to her husband and at least one idiot son but fails big time with the daughter. She's hilarious.

THE WHOLE SERIES SHOULD HAVE BEEN ABOUT JEANNIE FLANAGAN.

But. In Orange she is the mother figure to EVERYONE. She's dry, she's vulnerable, she touches, she cares, she has insight, she stretches herself, she has plans unseen by and for those she motherhens, she's fallible, she's vulnerable, she's idealistic despite being in prison, and she's tough as nails.

Kate Mulgrew does all of this like breathing. She can tell you any of these stories with a look, a sigh, wave of her (VERY SEXY) hand. This role is perfect for Kate Mulgrew, PERFECT.

    Well guess what.

I finished Weeds. And in the LAST episode there was Natasha Lyonne! So now JRulez you have to watch all 8 seasons of this pre-Orange Jenji show to the very end to see Natasha in her first Jenji role. I know you can do it. I have seen your steely dedication to Orange and Kate Mulgrew in this thread.

It was actually quite good, while I wavered at one point the dramatic setting changes and the excellent use of a huge ensemble cast kept me plugged in. That's one thing I loved about Orange, the way so many secondary characters are woven into the main characters narrative, and I think this is a Jenji Kohan strength. Some of the character development and changes iwere impressive too. I also appreciated the light nature giving way to real consequences as things got darker in Weeds. I think you will like it JRulez, there are only about 13 eps a season.

It's inspired me for second season Orange. I feel like having seen 8 years of Jenji's vision for balancing humor, drama, issues and punchy dialog she is well honed and this second season is going to be a knockout.

And you know she likes her older woman characters.. I'm thinking the Kate Mulgew-Jenji relationship might be one of those ongoing multi series things :adore:

Well.... I'll consider it, if only to let it reassure me Jenji will do "right" by our Auburn Queen. :mallory:

If she doesn't, I say we threaten to catch the showrunner and dye her hair  BROWN!

Here's an article on the evils of "product placement".

    http://junkee.com/orange-is-the-new...ouse-of-cards-and-the-myth-of-ad-free-viewing

I laughed as I read it, wondering what they were going to pick on when it came to OitNB... Laverne's home made duct tape sandals? Red's red hair dye?

    Nope.

They damned the DUNKIN DONUTS in Blood Donut! :cardie:

That's not "product placement" on the east coast, that's reality! :p

"My life is not typical." Laverne Cox on Meredith Vieira's "Overshare".

    [yt]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t_znTP-sWi8[/yt]

Okay, completely "off topic"... WHY does the spellcheck think "Vieira" is spelled correctly but it thinks Janeway and Mulgrew are not? :wtf:

A very interesting piece on OitNB...

    http://blog.lareviewofbooks.org/deartv/watch-netflix-middle-night/

    I especially liked this part...

It might be argued (and some have) that the show, like Piper, tries to call itself out on its own myopia and ultimately fails, but I’ll defend that finale as exactly the opposite. I think it’s a pretty incredible piece of television.

It’s always arresting when the ”good” woman goes dark, but to do so in a Christmas special is an unprecedented escalation in the Interesting TV Wars. I have never seen a Christmas special so lovingly executed, so gorgeously peppered with small moments of grace, in order to show both the effects of grace and what everyone outside it feels: isolated, misanthropic, partly dead. The Christmas pageant wasn’t mocked, its triumphs were fully earned, and yet Piper’s exclusion from them was just as fully warranted. The modulation in contrasts there was insane, it was filigree, it was totally amazing. If we worried that this show would devolve into Piper’s self-help story, that worry’s over. And if she isn’t a murderer, it’s on a technicality. That last shot of Piper smashing Pennsatucky’s face over and over, long after there was any sign of life, was an incredible piece of character assassination. I suppose one could argue that it’s still a Piper-centric ending in that it ends with her, but the heart of the finale is inside the auditorium, where Norma is singing. It’s Piper vs. the ensemble, and Piper loses. That’s a long way of saying that OITNB respects its own experiments and, in so doing, makes its world more real.

    On a lighter note... :)

Another pic from a pre-Emmy party. http://news.yahoo.com/photos/left-u...rrive-2013-entertainment-photo-091733932.html What a weird name... "Emmy".

Call me crazy, but its always nice to see Uzo without her Suzanne hairdo. Scroll down to the Popsugar tweet..

Here's another panel... The New Yorker this time,

    http://instagram.com/p/fB16nhSrdz/#

but I haven't found much else on it. Of course, having Kate :mallory: front and center on the panel is enough to interest me.

Damn, Jenji's hair looks greener with every passing day.

This one is cute and SFW, :)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AdskAJOV2V0

Although its called "The Crazy Kids", they don't forget the older generation...with Red ripping Piper a new orifice being the most memorable inclusion. :mallory:

This next is a teaser for the hour interview I posted awhile ago. It was well done, but the teaser is even better since like all teasers it gleans the best from the interview and highlights them.

Orange Is The New Black - Beyond The Litch

Loved the Jodie Foster comments. :bolian:

    [yt]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K72-T2QxJyw[/yt]

If you are a shipper, then search YT for Red (Piper and Alex) ... I think its okay for work but since it includes that famous 5 second shower scene, I will let you guys decide.

(NO... it doesn't include Kate Mulgrew :alienblush: despite the title, the "Red" in the title refers to the musical selection. :guffaw: )

Team Alex or Team Larry? :vulcan:

    http://www.vh1.com/celebrity/2013-10-09/orange-is-the-new-black-team-alex-team-larry/

    I like Natasha's answer. :rommie:

    Speaking of Team Alex... :)

I think this new P/A is Okay, but in case its not, just search YT for Piper & Alex | I Heart You | OITNB

I nearly croaked when this channel's logo cover Red/Kate Mulgrew's face, but luckily it can be reduced AWAY.

The closest you'll most likely ever get was season 1 when she sailed to the front of the shower line in episode 2? 3?... the same scene where she "gave" Piper permission to use the toilet when Leanne tried to stop her from "cutting" the line.

When I 1st read this, teacake... :alienblush:

I thought you meant your own PERSONAL shower scene and I was gonna :guffaw: ask what photo of yourself did you want us to present to Mulgrew for her review. :p

And of course, that reminds me of a (On YT somewhere) Star Trek Voyager convention, years ago, that she attended with her then husband in tow. A questioner asked her how she felt to be such a sex symbol to the lesbian community, and she turned to her hubby and asked HIM how he felt about it. :mallory:

His response to her appeal across the sexes?

"Doubles your chance of a date on Saturday night."

The next vid contains the usual F bombs, but should be safe for work as long as women crying doesn't upset the applecart.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_A5xxYTk9Q

There is at least 1 kiss, but clothes are in place. ;)

And for all you "70's show" fans... (I skipped that one in its first run, I'd lived the 70's and didn't need to go back "so soon") here's a little gift for you. :)

Pretty sure that's exactly what teacock meant ;)

Hey if Kate wanted a pic of me for "review" then I'd be totally fine with that. Just saying.

    Edit:

Need to rewatch ep 2 and 3.. Must find shower scene with Red.
