Star Trek: Renegades I thought someone would have posted this by now: http://www.geekworldordersite.com/blog/2012/09/star-trek-renegades-teaser-trailer/ This series was talked about a few months back on Coast to Coast AM and a few other sources. Since Coast to Coast is viewed by some to be a less then creditable source, I decided not to mention anything about it till now. This trailer though --- it sends chills down my back!
Sanctioned? I'd like a citation for that, please. By which I mean, I'd like a citation that this an official CBS-owned project. OGAM was a fan/unofficial project, by the way.
You realize CBS owns the TV SERIES rights. Rod Roddenberry owns the individual Star Trek movie rights. He doesn't need CBS to sanction anything like this. They might give a call out to CBS to keep things friendly, but its not legally necessary.
Unless this production is legally entitled to use the Star Trek brand, for profit, I move that this thread be moved over to fan productions, too.
Last I heard CBS owned Trek in its entirety and was allowing Paramount to make movies for a fee (Star Trek 2009, Star Trek Into Darkness). I'm pretty sure the only thing Rod Roddenberry owns is a sense of entitlement from being Gene's son.
Correct. I'm not positive on the relationship between CBS and Paramount, but Rod Roddenberry has no rights whatsoever. Neither did Gene for that matter. The rights have always been held by studios. This is an unauthorized fan production. It may have professional actors in it, but it is no more official than Phase II or any other fan film.
Star Trek: Of Gods and Men and Star Trek: Renegades are fan films. That's not a bash on them, just a statement. Trek's always been very lenient about this sort of thing, going all the way back to the fanzine movement in the 70's. I've read some wonderful stories from those, and enjoyed some recent fan productions, but they're still fan fiction and not official Star Trek. Fan films have become the modern day fanzine equivalent. It's incredibly cool to see Tim Russ and Walter Koenig playing their characters again, but they're still doing it in an unsanctioned production.
Re: Star Trek: Renegades You should know that Coast to Coast has nothing to do with sci-fi. It mainly has something to do with ghost, ufo, time travel, aliens and conspiracy.
Re: Star Trek: Renegades Say what? UFOs, Time Travel and Aliens are no longer SciFi? What pray tell is SciFi then?
No, he doesn't. The Roddenberrys don't own any of Star Trek now. Paramount owns the movie rights, CBS owns the TV rights. The people making this don't own any rights to Star Trek whatever. This is a fan production.
Okay maybe its not the right forum, but that trailer has piqued my interest, which is more than I can say for the other webseries I've sampled, Trek or otherwise. I never thought about the fact that Chekov is only 20 years older than Tuvok and of course they could have met, how fun is that? And the acting from them is guaranteed not to be unwatcahbly painful, the big downfall in web series. Thanks. Remind us when there's more to watch, maybe in the general Star Trek area.
I actually wasn't aware of Of Gods and Men, even, so, while I watching the trailer and saw it was a sequel, I bookmarked Of Gods and Men, to watch later
