All I know is that fans would have called Jon Favreau arrogant as hell if he had his character start a relationship with Pepper. There is using your power as a director to do a fun cameo and there is abusing its power so you can make out with Gwyneth Paltrow!:rommie:

So they should omit any sort of character development and have a 2 hour movie based on Iron Man fighting bad guys?

One of them things I really liked about the first Iron Man was there was a romance and flirting, but it never took over the plot. Tony and Pepper didn't EVEN kiss. It might have been a first in a superhero movie.

They started to become annoying in IM2, but got better again in Avengers.

I just don't want the romance to ruin the movie like Spider-Man 3 which had a tedious love triangle.

What's the problem with romance and kissing?

I don't have a problem with it as long as it is done well. Like I said, I was fine with Tony and Pepper in IM and Avengers.

While I thought all the romance in all the Spider-Man movies was very tedious.

Introducing another love interest to force a conflict isn't character development. It's a cheap stunt.

Tony and Pepper work well in their current dynamic. They love each other. They have fun. They bicker. They get pissed at each other. The way their relationship is written works really well.

I'm not even saying they can't have relationship troubles, but a "love triangle" just seems like a lazy way of achieving it.

Well, all we know about it is are very loose snatches of rumours on the internet. It could be done well or badly. I'm quite happy to await the movie to see how it's done here. But on previous experience, I'm happy to believe that Shane Black will avoid lazy cliches in how he approaches it.

Latino review posts some on-set pics, as well as providing a spoiler...

Tony's Malibu home will be blasted into the ocean by the bad guys.

Comic Book Movie provides this casting info (By way of a Playlist podcast that I can't access at my work computer)...

William Sadler has been cast as an Army General.

Also, SHEILD will maintain a presence in the film, with Maria Hill taking over the "connective tissue" character role previouly filled by the late Phil Coulson.

I very much doubt fans would call Favs arrogant for developing Happy's character arc with Pepper, especially if they are familiar with that relationship from the comics. In the "Iron Man 2" novelization this is touched on and is part of Happy's character arc as he admits to himself in an internal monologue that he's in love with Pepper. I believe that he questions if he should tell Tony or not and decides not to do so. This happens IIRC about mid way through the novel.

As I was watching the first one again (in the lead up to Avengers). I was surprised at how little screentime Favs actually had as Happy.

He only gets a little more in the sequel. I wonder if that was because he was also directing the flicks? Maybe now that he's just acting he can get a bigger part?

Does Happy really need a bigger part?
