And lets just be clear about this, the lettering... It was this weird Gothic font that was just amazing and really leant to the mythos that you reading stories about the absolute monarch of 8/10ths of the world.

Usually letterers aren't allowed to go off the reservation like that, but he was John Freaking Byrne.

I wonder whatever happened to Tom Orzechowski. He was always going off the reservation. What an amazing calligrapher he was.

I loved John Workman Jr. Especially when he was teamed with Walter Simonson.

I picked up Young Avengers #1. I tried to pretend it was Phonogram -- but I didn't quite succeed.

There are some interesting visual things (a sequence with Kate Bishop and some Skrulls has a Frank Quitely layout) and it's a pretty book (which you would expect with McKelvie). And while there's character on every page, there's not a lot of story here. I have no idea who these characters are, and I have no idea why I should care about them. Maybe if someone had talked about Kenickie then I'd have understood. No, I guess these characters would have been infacts in Kenickie's heyday, so they should have had conversations about Snow Patrol and "Chasing Cars" instead. Then I'd have gotten it.

I don't know who the person at the end is supposed to be -- or even any of the backstory leading to that.

    Still. It's a pretty book.

    Needs more Kenickie.

The Skrull who pretended to be Hulkings mother while he was growing up on Earth who was really his bodyguard, who it seems has super Skrull powers, which seems unlikely or was more than the Skrull she appeared to be years earlier... Or since she was collected from an alternate timeline, it's possible that this was a completely different bodyguard who was assigned to wear the same face and look after Mar'Vell's kid.

YA was probably the most disappointing comic this week.

I liked the bit with kate at the beginning, until her beau was revealed... But ain't they hinting at an April September Romance between her and Hawkeye in Hawkeye... I mean they're protesting too much that they're not a couple, and they have these moments where... But Wiccan's 180 degree spin from
intensely 1980s Mary Jane Watson angry that his boyfriend has a secret double life that he swore he would bury (Betty Banner went through that phase many times, I want you Bruce, not the Hulk, and now look at her!), to "oh, it's who you really are on the inside and I can't really change you..."

    His mothers son.

Oh yeah, Uncanny Avengers. I had forgotten this book existed. It was a decent action book. Wolverine slicing off Red Skull's hand and then getting Thor'd was pretty cool.

I liked Young Avengers, but then I know who most of the characters are already.

As long as it's Gillen writing Teen Loki, I'm in.

Loved the old school narration caption boxes in Uncanny Avengers.

A nice Digg-centric episode last night. What I would really like on the future DVD set is the ability to watch all the island scenes as a seperate episode themselves. I really like that part of the show. Next up Vertigo.

Me too. Those flashbacks are the most interesting part of the show, but they're too damn short! But then, Berlanti is doing that on purpose, giving us small doses to keep us wanting more.

And as for last nights ep, I wish they'd explained what Gaynor's name was doing on that list. I expected some kind of revelation about him being involved in something big during his days in Afghanistan, but he ended up being a regular ex-military stickup artist. Doesn't make sense...

All New X-Men is bi-monthly. So most likely it will return at the beginning of next month, as I believe both issues for this month have already shipped.

    -Avengers #4
    -Superior Spider-Man #2

That's it for me next week.

Wow Uncanny Avengers is just bad. The interaction of the characters is handled poorly and the Red Skull, well maybe the writer should have done some research on the guy. Just way off from what a Skull just awakened from WWII would be like.
