One big drawback to Voyager being in the Delta Quadrent was it was difficult to use characters from other series. I'm a massive fan of Lwaxana Troi, and I'd have loved to have had her show up on Voyager. I have the idea that there could be a hologram version of her that Voyager could activate whenever they needed an Ambassador, allowing the character to recur. I image that she'd be instantly smitten by the Doctor, which could've been a lot of fun.
Re: Recurring characters from other Trek series you'd have liked to se Without touching on the liking or disliking of Lwaxana... short of -maaaaaaaaaaybe- appearing in one of the Pathfinder episodes, just can't see it.
Re: Recurring characters from other Trek series you'd have liked to se Mostly I'd just liked to have seen Lwaxana interacting with the Voyager crew for at least one episode. She's pretty fun and I'd especially have loved for her to have interacted with the Doctor. She's a great source of comedy, but she can surprise you and pull off some tearjerking drama too.
Re: Recurring characters from other Trek series you'd have liked to se If there were going to be an Ambassador hologram for some unforeseeable reason, especially for a one shot guest star, I'd rather see Ambassador Spock.
Re: Recurring characters from other Trek series you'd have liked to se Any idea what you'd have wanted Spock to do as far as his interactions with the crew? Interacting with Tuvok seems, well, logical, but I'm not sure what they'd have to say to each other. Tuvok didn't really seem like he needed a mentor or anything. I don't really know what they'd say, but I imagine that Kes and Spock could have a really interesting friendship. She's so emotional in her own way, and very short lived, while he was reserved and long lived. The extremes of their differences could be interesting to explore. I could see some interesting Spock and Janeway interactions too, he could advise her on some issues or other. If nothing else he'd be someone she could talk to that she wasn't in a position of authority over, which is something she probably really needed. He'd be someone she could express her fears and doubts to.
Re: Recurring characters from other Trek series you'd have liked to se Spock and Seven objectively discussing the flaws of humanity would've been interesting.
Re: Recurring characters from other Trek series you'd have liked to se I chose Spock because of something you said in the original post: Spock would be more useful in an ambassadorial role considering his logical personality. A major part of Lwaxana's personality comes from her telepathic abilities, which a hologram would not be able to mimic. Her ambassadorial skills otherwise aren't that great. The other problem is no single member of the crew has even a distant connection to her, so I'm not sure how anyone could come to think of her as a mentor. Spock has a historical significance not only as an ambassador, but his years of experience serving on a starship.
Re: Recurring characters from other Trek series you'd have liked to se I'd have loved for some anomaly to drop Scotty on them. B'Lanna and Scotty on a tear would be a hoot.
Re: Recurring characters from other Trek series you'd have liked to se Good point, perhaps she could just be in a holoprogram where she hosted very large parties.. my god she could have been the Hula Queen of the Luau Neelix was fond of! We could have seen her in a grass skirt and coconut bra!!! You're right OP, opportunities were wasted.
Re: Recurring characters from other Trek series you'd have liked to se This was more of a fanfiction idea of mine and be the arc of a season, but if Voyager had respected the Maquis a little more than just making them convenient Star Trek personnel replacements, I would have had Tomas Riker come on board the ship in the guise of William Riker. Voyager left before the defiant incident, so they don't know about that. I would have had Tom slowly raise the tensions of the crews as he plays off one with the other, while revealing his true identity to the Maquis members in secret except for Chakotay. I'm not sure how it would completely go, but his goal would be to engineer a mutiny among the lower personnell on the ship and have both sides willingly install him as captain, while Chakotay and Janeway (with perhaps Tuvok) are jettisonned off to space. Riker would have a plan to bring back Voyager to the alpha quaddrant, having gained some knowledge of the wormhole aliens and how to get them to open up new temporary wormholes under specific conditions. It's how he got there and how he wants to bring them home. He plans to make Voyager the flagship of the Maquis and destroy Cardassia once and for all (once he gets to the alpha quaddrant, any federation loyalists will quickly be brigged). Meanwhile Janeway, Chakotay, and Tuvok have to raise a new ship and crew to stop him in time. Maybe they're set off in Neelix's little Talaxian trashheap ship with very little fuel to start with becasue Capt Tom doesn't feel it's worth hauling it around the quandrant and feeling escape pods are more valuable to have. Tom Paris and Harry Kim don't participate in the mutiny but cooperate afterwards. One would be a double agent and one becomes loyal to the cause. Spy vs Spy type thing. And lets face it, this is needed because Harry is boring as hell. He is or plays the once-eager ensign that became disillusioned wit the whole thing. Tom plays, well, Tom. Seven is probably with Janeway and she and the doctor, forced to serve, can play the seperated lovers drama. And Seska? Of course she'll have a role in all this.
Re: Recurring characters from other Trek series you'd have liked to se Wow that does sound pretty brilliant. I agree the Maquis were never really used as well as they should.
Re: Recurring characters from other Trek series you'd have liked to se It's a good point that Voyager had a small crew and no access to new people so using holograms this way would have made some sense.
Re: Recurring characters from other Trek series you'd have liked to se Nah, Broccoli and Troi were good enough.
Re: Recurring characters from other Trek series you'd have liked to se I did think that using a hologram to bring in a new character was a convienient way to get someone there short term. Then, when the story's over, the character could be deactivated until needed again. It wouldn't be something you'd want to overuse, but it works, without having to have Q escort guest stars back and forth. I think a recurring hologram of a real person, Lwaxana, Spock, whoever, could have some pretty interesting conversations with the Doctor on the nature of holograms and life.
Re: Recurring characters from other Trek series you'd have liked to se It probably would have pissed me off if they actually did this. I would be posting that it detracted from them being lost in the DQ to have TNG folk leaping into the picture, photons or not.
Re: Recurring characters from other Trek series you'd have liked to se I am not sanguine about crossovers, myself ... Whilst I wouldn't have wanted to see other Trek series characters on VOYAGER, with regularity, it would've been great to see more STAR TREK actors from every series, fleshing out the guest star roster.
Re: Recurring characters from other Trek series you'd have liked to se Agreed, I would rather have seen more of the actors. We did get Jeffery Combs though!
Re: Recurring characters from other Trek series you'd have liked to se Flint. So close. Jim Daly died in 1978. Sad. Seems like there did need to be some recasting. Here's the thing. Jim had a kid called Tim. Tim is some what of a big deal in some circles. Legacies are cool.
Re: Recurring characters from other Trek series you'd have liked to se Yeah, I would have preferred Majel as a completely new character rather than rehashing Lwaxana again. Same with Dwight Schultz, he has much more range than doing Barclay all the time.
